00:03 - Man, I love TV and movies.
00:05 And let's face it, it's become a huge part of our culture.
00:08 And let me tell you, in the military,
00:10 we are serious fans just like you are.
00:13 But sometimes I see a scene and I think to myself,
00:16 "Can you really do that?"
00:18 ♪ ♪ ♪
00:19 I'm Terry Shappard.
00:21 As a U.S. Army Green Beret medic, sniper,
00:23 and close combat specialist,
00:25 I've been tested most of my life.
00:27 I'm here to put Hollywood to the test.
00:29 This is Hollywood Weapons.

00:37 - Hollywood Weapons is a little like Mythbusters
00:40 on steroids, in a sense,
00:41 that we're just basically trying to recreate these scenes
00:45 that we've known and loved from film and television.
00:47 - Meet me in October Plaza, 33rd, for one hour.
00:50 It's a scientific show.
00:52 It's a film and TV lover's show.
00:55 All those things are combined
00:56 for a really entertaining experience
00:58 where you see how you do stuff behind the scenes.
01:01 And then you put this knucklehead to the test
01:03 and see if you can actually make that shot.
01:05 Are you guys actually gonna give me the shot
01:06 to do this myself?
01:07 [gunshot]
01:09 - Oh, my God, I couldn't do it again.
01:11 [gunshots]
01:13 [explosion]
01:14 - Smile, you son of a--
01:16 [gunshot]
01:17 [explosion]

01:20 - Films like "Jaws," "Die Hard."
01:22 - Hey, welcome to the party, pal!
01:24 [gunshots]
01:26 - "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,"
01:27 TV shows like the one that I've been on for years,
01:29 "Criminal Minds."
01:31 We've got Terry out there, you know,
01:32 obviously having a ball.
01:34 - And I thought you were gonna be bad.
01:36 - You're never gonna get an even tan.
01:39 - We need somebody who's a former Green Beret sniper
01:43 with experience he's had to kind of ask him to do
01:45 the kinds of crazy things that are demanded
01:47 in a show like this.
01:49 - I guess you could say the reason I wanted to be involved
01:50 in this show were some selfish reasons.
01:52 First of all, I love TV and film,
01:55 and I'm a combat guy, I'm a special forces guy,
01:57 so I wanted to learn how you do it behind the scenes,
02:01 and I also wanted to be given the challenge of seeing
02:03 if I could actually do that under real-world conditions
02:06 with those real weapons in real time.
02:10 - I think the best part of making a show--
02:11 the best part of making any show is just the kind of--
02:13 the things you discover by doing it,
02:15 the camaraderie of the people.
02:16 I mean, I personally love the interplay
02:20 between Larry and Terry.
02:21 So we've got the new Eben and Costello going here
02:24 with these two guys.
02:25 - Larry.
02:26 - Hey, Terry.
02:27 - I knew you hoped I was gonna be gone,
02:29 but I'm not.
02:30 I'm back, and I have another quest.
02:33 - What kind of crazy idea have you come up with now?
02:35 - Mildly intimidating.
02:36 I just want you to know I look really good in a wetsuit.
02:39 - Too much information, my man.
02:40 - Lead on, buddy. - Too much information.
02:42 - You're like a really ugly doll put at SeaWorld
02:44 that you just have to keep feeding.
02:46 - You're not that ugly, so...
02:48 - The guys I work with, the photographers,
02:50 the sound guys, the directors, the writers,
02:53 all the special effects guys, and of course,
02:55 my now BFF, Larry Zanoff.
02:58 - I'm looking for a guy named Terry.
02:59 I'm supposed to meet him up here.
03:01 - When did you put this radio in my desk?
03:03 - When I stole your cell phone.
03:04 - Listen to me, man. - Stole my cell phone?
03:05 - Time is ticking. Are you in or out?
03:06 We've really had a great team.
03:07 We have a lot of fun, and at the end of it,
03:10 we all shake hands and have a good laugh.
03:11 (explosion)
03:12 (laughing)
03:13 - And that, my friend, is how you blow up a shark.
03:16 - I mean, I think the takeaway from the show
03:18 is it's almost somewhat educational in the sense
03:20 that everybody likes to be able to finally have something
03:24 that they maybe wondered about realized.
03:27 In other words, can this thing happen?
03:29 And to be able to know in a half hour entertaining program,
03:33 see, oh yeah, it can or cannot,
03:36 and being done in a very safe and sane way as well.
03:38 - I really hope first and foremost
03:40 that the audience of Hollywood Weapons enjoys themselves.
03:43 I also hope they realize how smart and clever
03:45 the special effects guys are,
03:46 and also appreciate some of the safety concerns
03:49 that have to be built in when you're filming these things.
03:52 And I also hope they like the idea
03:54 of how hard some of these shots are.
03:57 - But how did it go in practice?
03:58 What do you mean?
03:59 I could have been practicing?
04:00 - Well, I would have been practicing
04:01 if I was taking that shot.
