00:00 Our objective hasn't just been to help those who've fallen through the cracks, but to repair
00:06 them, so no one is forced over the edge in the first place.
00:10 Overall housing completions recently hit their highest level in our city since the 1930s.
00:17 More new council homes are being built now than at any time since the 1970s.
00:23 If re-elected, I pledge to build at least 40,000 more, construct 6,000 rent-control
00:30 homes and pay for legal advice for tenants with dodgy landlords.
00:36 And while my Tory opponent believes people should work three jobs to get their own home,
00:43 a Labour government will do what this one has failed to do, and actually build some
00:47 – 1.5 million homes in the first term, in fact.
00:53 But I'll be the first to admit that our efforts haven't been enough.
01:00 Despite everything we've done, the Tories are exacerbating this crisis faster than we
01:05 can ease it.
01:06 The number of homeless people is rising across Britain.
01:12 And London, as so often in the past, is feeling this most acutely.
01:18 Last year, thousands of people slept rough on our city's streets.
01:23 The situation as it stands is simply not compatible with the values Londoners hold.
01:29 We're not set apart in this life, but stood together.
01:34 We belong to the same community, same city, same human race.
01:38 When we see another member suffer, we suffer.
01:43 Making this right matters to Londoners.
01:45 It matters to me.
01:48 If I'm re-elected on May 2nd as your Mayor, my promise to Londoners is that I'll finally
01:55 end rough sleeping in our city by 2030.
01:59 Thank you.
