00:00She's a senior cat.

00:00She had a home for so long, and then she

00:03was left at the shelter.

00:05I am Helen, and this is Sophia's story for GOBs.

00:08She was at a home since she was three months

00:10old with the same person, and she

00:13was left at the shelter a week prior before we got her.

00:16I believe the reason was because they moved

00:18and they couldn't take her.

00:23What really sealed the deal for me

00:26was the fact that she's a senior cat.

00:27Senior cats are overlooked for the most part,

00:30and I feel like they deserve a second chance.

00:33It was actually my husband who spotted Sophia.

00:36And I was a little nervous at first

00:38because they instantly connected,

00:40and I felt maybe she wouldn't like me just

00:43because of that instant connection that they had.

00:45But she does very well with both of us.

00:47And I felt like it was meant to be to adopt her just

00:51because the day we adopted her was actually

00:53the birthday of my first puppy.

00:54I had a Beagle for 17 years.

00:56She's no longer with us.

00:58And her birthday is the day that we adopted Sophia.

01:00So I was like, oh my gosh, it's so meant to be.

01:04Sophia is actually our very first cat for both of us.

01:06We've never had cats.

01:07It's been a learning experience.

01:09Dogs and cats are completely different,

01:11and we're just learning as we go.

01:13Sophia is such a sweet cat, very gentle.

01:18We noticed when we would leave out for a day, when

01:21we would go out doing errands, we have a kitty cat,

01:23and she would just cry for us.

01:25So I feel like she's gotten really attached.

01:31She likes her space, but in the beginning,

01:33she would always be under the bed.

01:34What's going on, huh?

01:37But now, wherever we go on the couch

01:39or if I do my Bible study in the morning,

01:41she'll follow me.

01:42At night, she'll go ahead and jump on the bed.

01:46She's a chonky cat.

01:47We got her when she was 16 pounds.

01:49Now she's 15.5, which is not much of a difference.

01:53But with cats, it's very different.

01:55We have her on a diet.

01:56We try to play with her, try to get her to move.

01:59She needs to be around 13 or less.

02:02But overall, her health is great.

02:04She hasn't given us any signs, any warnings,

02:07or anything to be alarmed.

02:09So for the most part, everything looks good.

02:11One thing I noticed about Sophia is that when I'm sad,

02:14when I'm crying, she comes to me, and she comforts me.

02:19Which I thought that was a little odd just because cats

02:21are really, again, no knowledge of cats in the past.

02:24But from rumors, cats are not that affectionate.

02:28But I learned that every cat has their own personality.

02:31So when I'm upset or crying, she'll sit on my chest.

02:34And she'll just purr, and she'll just be near me.

02:37She'll start sniffing me.

02:38And it's something that I notice a pattern

02:40whenever I'm feeling low.

02:42She turns 10 next month.

02:44I always tell this to my husband.

02:46I'm like, I really hope she knows how much we love her,

02:48and how much we care for her, and how we want

02:51the best of the best for her.
