00:00 Hi there, my name is Culler Gormley, I'm a trainee reporter for Sussex World and if you're wondering what this lovely little treat in the foreground here is, it's a custard pie from Turner's Pies that I'm going to be having a little snack on and talking about for you guys.
00:14 A mini review I guess you'd say. I've already reviewed, obviously Turner's Pies are really famous for their meat pies, I think specifically the steak and ale sort of thing, but I've already talked about those.
00:25 Spoiler alert, they're really nice, they're really nice, but in the wake of Phil Turner narrowly, and this is a spoiler by the way, but narrowly missing out on the win in last night's final of The Apprentice, I thought it was worth just sort of revisiting them and seeing what else they do because it's not all pies.
00:44 Sometimes it's custard in a pie and sometimes that's fine, but I'm really excited to try it. The previous pie was absolutely gorgeous and it just seemed like a worthwhile thing to do to, I don't know, continue to spread the good news I suppose because it's really nice to have a local businessman sort of getting such hope, having so much profile, doing so well and earning praise, quite well deserved praise I think in terms of the quality of his products anyway,
01:12 from Alan Sugar and his aides, whose names elude me currently, as well as a sort of intimidating swathe of industry experts. So he didn't come away with a win, but there is a kind of, there's a moral victory I think somewhere in there to be found.
01:27 And yeah, so let's give this a go. If you're a real big fan of watching me specifically eat things, you are in for a treat, a custard filled treat in fact. So we're going in, we're going in.
01:51 I'm going to have to forgive me for zooming in this way, but you can see how densely filled that is. This is not a pie that's messing about with you right now. You know, there's some pies that are like here and you're filling ends. This is the whole hog, the real deal, the real McCoy, Dell Boys, toys that didn't follow through, that didn't really travel.
02:19 You see the point and it does taste very nice. The pastry is kind of substantial without sort of being overwhelming. There's a real delicate, creamy sweetness to the custard. It's perfect. I mean, it's a very simple thing, but I think it seems to me that what Turner's Pie does well, Turner's Pies do well, is simple stuff. Very, very, very well with very good ingredients and a real sort of sense of tradition and prestige.
02:42 So yeah, if you're in the market for a little pie that isn't filled with meat, maybe this custard bad boy, this little bad boy, this custard thing, maybe that's the way to go. Yeah. Thank you very, very much.
