SI's Bri Amaranthus and Chris Halicke discuss what the future looks like for Globe Life Park, the former home of the Texas Rangers for 26 seasons.
Transcript
00:00One of the most exciting aspects of the 2020 MLB season for the Texas Rangers fans at least
00:06was getting inside Globe Life Field. But when it comes to Globe Life Park, their old stadium,
00:12a lot of changes have been made, especially since the XFL is now folded and barring any changes,
00:19will not be coming back. Chris, I know that you said that you have an inside scoop that
00:23you got to see all the XFL stuff coming down from inside that park. What are they going to do with
00:30Globe Life Park? So there's a few things that they still have planned for Globe Life Park.
00:35They still have the minor league team that's affiliated with with FC Dallas that's still
00:39going to play there if and when they get up and running again. So that is still in the plans.
00:45Six Flags is going to be headquartered in the center field office buildings.
00:50Whenever they open up again. Right, whenever they are, but which it looks like it's going to be
00:55soon. Granted, a lot of restrictions, but still their headquarters is going to be moving to
01:02the ball to the old ballpark. And also John Daniels, the general manager, did also tell us
01:08that they do plan on utilizing some of the aspects that Globe Life Park still has for this
01:14spring training 2.0. They can still utilize the weight room. They can still have, you know,
01:20bullpen sessions over there. So they can still do some things, even though it's been reconfigured to
01:24not play baseball anymore. They can still utilize some aspects of it to help them
01:29with their preparation for the 2020 season if we get a 2020 season. I think probably the biggest
01:34question out of fans will be, oh no, is Globe Life Park going to eventually turn into just parking
01:41for Globe Life Field? Well, from the last time I talked to team officials, that's not in the plans
01:46right now. They still plan on doing many different things with the old ballpark. They understand that
01:51the old ballpark is very well loved by a lot of fans. It only held the team for 26 seasons.
01:58A lot of fans didn't want to see it go. But a lot of fans wanted the air conditioning.
02:04Absolutely. They'll be very happy that they won't be sweating their tails off in July and August.
02:09But, you know, the old ballpark has a lot of charm to it. But the team understands that
02:16they're not going to be doing anything with it or tearing it down anytime soon.
