Transcript
00:00We are all missing baseball, but what about those baseball employees that are counting on the sport to come back for their livelihood?
00:072020 Opening Day has already been pushed back until at least mid-May.
00:12Chris, you were on the conference call with Texas Rangers GM John Daniels. Did he clear anything up today?
00:18Times are tough right now in Major League Baseball and all over the sports world.
00:23There's a lot of people that are worried about their jobs.
00:26Here recently, Major League Baseball reports have been coming out about teams committing to pay their baseball operations employees.
00:34The general deadline right now has been through the end of May.
00:38The Texas Rangers, there was a national report that came out last week saying that they were going to be the first team to not commit to that.
00:46I reached out to a Rangers executive and said that they are committed to pay those employees and to not lay off or furlough any of their baseball operations employees.
00:58Rangers GM John Daniels on Monday morning told the media via conference call that those employees will not see any pay reductions through at least May 15th, hopefully longer.
01:11Obviously, the situation is very fluid and continues to change every day.
01:16Major League Baseball is looking for different ways to get back to playing.
01:21We're coming up on the end of this eight-week recommendation from the CDC of limiting large gatherings of 50 people or more.
01:30Obviously, that's going to get sports leagues, including Major League Baseball, thinking of any potential return.
01:38If the CDC extends it, how does that affect any kind of return for MLB or the NHL or NBA?
01:45How does it affect the start of the NFL later on?
01:48The sports world is at the mercy of the CDC and the government and public health officials right now.
01:55Every employee, when it comes to baseball operations, ballpark employees, third-party contractors, broadcast freelancers that help broadcast the games, all those people are relying on sports to come back so that they can have income for their families.
02:13It's a dire time where people are in need.
02:18It's something we need to be keeping a look on on a daily basis.
