00:00We're here with Chris Halleck from Sports Illustrated talking about the Texas Rangers.
00:06Alright, Globe Wide Field is about to open and the one thing that fans are really not
00:11sure about is the active grass.
00:14Sorry, not turf.
00:15Synthetic grass.
00:16Synthetic grass is what they're calling it.
00:18But come on, we all know what it really is.
00:20It's not real grass.
00:21So the Rangers did play around with the idea of having real grass.
00:25But they wanted to then weigh all their options.
00:27They wanted to be able to use the stadium for things other than baseball.
00:30And being able to have a state of the art synthetic grass was part of the decision.
00:34And they ended up deciding with this Shaw synthetic grass.
00:39And it's looked good so far.
00:41So you were there today.
00:43So tell me about the synthetic grass.
00:44Did you play around with it?
00:46I did.
00:47I did like the toe drag that the receivers do in football just to see the infield come
00:50up.
00:51Because it's not the same infield, the rubber pellet.
00:54It's this organic stuff made of coconut husk.
00:56And it's this organic fill that they're putting in.
00:59So it's good to see something different.
01:02It's made specifically for baseball.
01:04So not just for players, but also for the way the ball bounces off of it.
01:08So it definitely feels a little bit different.
01:11That's for sure.
01:12And Pudge Rodriguez also had some high praise for it, too.
01:15Talk about one of their greatest races of all time.
01:18Right.
01:19And the Arizona Diamondbacks at Kingsville play on the same floor as the surface.
01:22Yes.
01:23Is it true that the Rangers are going to go prep while they're there?
01:26Yes.
01:27In Arizona on March 14th, the Rangers players are going to get the feeders,
01:31shot some fly balls, and take some grounders on the surface just so they can start to get
01:35acclimated to it.
01:36And then they will also have a workout the day after they get back from spring training
01:40at the field to continue to get acclimated to it before they actually play next Michigan
01:46game on the 23rd against the St. Louis Cardinals.
01:49Right.
01:50Eagles on the horizon.
01:51We can't wait to bring you more.
