Chirinos Excited to Be Back Home
Transcript
00:00 >> David, my wife, everybody.
00:03 You guys know I have my brother and my sister here in town.
00:06 So they're happy to have me here.
00:10 It's different when they were able to watch me play every time we play here at
00:16 home, so as a family guy, so it's really special to be back home.
00:21 >> Robbie, how difficult was it for you?
00:25 You were with those guys last year, became teammates with a lot of those guys
00:29 that were there in 2017.
00:32 What goes through your head?
00:33 >> I was able to make relationship with everybody in that team.
00:41 And if you ask me if I see something last year
00:45 different to what I see every day in a different clubhouse, it was not that.
00:52 Those guys, they compete, they like to win, they play together as a team.
00:57 They prepare, they watch video, they try to take advantage.
01:03 I mean, they're looking for a team and all kind of stuff, but
01:07 I don't see anything outside of the normal thing you see in the stadium.
01:11 So the only thing I can do for those guys is pray, and
01:14 hopefully they can go through this rough time they're going right now.
01:19 >> You're in an interesting position because we can talk about stealing signs and
01:26 all that.
01:27 Catchers have the ability to come up with more complicated signs and
01:32 indicators and all of that.
01:33 You expect that's gonna be part of the job going forward?
01:37 >> I feel we're already using multiple signs.
01:42 I feel not only last year in Houston, but here in the Rangers.
01:47 And some guys that I call, it was using multiple signs with nobody on base.
01:52 They went down last year and those guys, they use multiple signs with nobody on base.
01:58 They believe somebody's watching their side, they don't feel comfortable.
02:06 They know sometimes the coaches relay sign from first base and third base.
02:11 So they just wanna don't give those signs away.
02:16 So I feel like everything have to do just to be able to feel mine fresh.
02:26 As a pitcher, you don't wanna be thinking somebody's stealing your sign.
02:30 So just made them to don't be worried about that.
02:34 >> You played with them for a year, but you played against them for four or
02:37 five years.
02:39 Did you guys ever suspect anything?
02:40 >> I feel like in 17,
02:47 I maybe hear one time the bank in their dugout.
02:54 But if you ask me being a catcher,
02:56 around the league a lot of people do all kind of stuff as a catcher.
03:00 Sometimes the guys in the on deck circle, they do something.
03:07 If I move early, they give location.
03:09 So I feel like everybody do something to take their edge.
03:14 I know they went and they crossed that line and
03:20 they're getting paid to what they did back in 17.
03:24 So hopefully they learn from that and hopefully everybody around the league
03:30 see that as a punish and be able to don't cross that line to play a fair game.
03:37 >> Do you think that punishment they came down with was fair?
03:40 >> I think so.
03:41 I mean, if you put it in the big picture, I mean AJ and
03:47 Jeff, both guys lose their yard and just what they did in Houston and
03:55 going that way through the back door is kinda sad for those guys.
04:02 It's what I said before, hopefully everybody around the league learn from
04:07 what Houston is going through.
04:09 And it's just a tough path to be.
04:12 As a team, as an organization, you don't wanna be going through what they're
04:18 going right now and asking questions and be able to go out and win games.
04:22 Just so many stuff they have to deal right now, so.
04:25 >> Are you looking forward to catching Kluber instead of facing him?
04:30 >> Yes, I mean, remember,
04:32 when I was 18, he was the toughest right-hander I faced in 18.
04:39 So I'm just looking forward to catch him and work together.
04:44 I mean, he's so good, and he's 50 again.
04:48 So I'm excited just to work not only with him, but with everybody.
04:52 I feel like we have a really good pitching staff, our rotation and
04:58 in the bullpen, so I'm excited just to be behind the plate for those guys.
