On-loan Sheffield United man Ben Brereton Diaz discusses his future, his form and the Blades' defeat at Manchester United
Transcript
00:00Ben, for so long I bet you thought you were coming away with something from Old Trafford, what did you make of the performance?
00:07Yeah, I mean everyone wants to play night Saturdays at Old Trafford against Manchester United. I thought we were really competitive in the game.
00:14I had a feeling and the other players had a feeling we could get something positive from this game and unfortunately in the second half it kind of fell a bit away from us.
00:24When we went 2-1 up, it's a tough game. We were really competitive and obviously scoring a wieldy there at the end and stuff like that.
00:35But yeah, I thought the fans were amazing as well in their numbers and stuff like that.
00:40Was there always hope tonight that you would get chances given how many shots Manchester United have been giving away recently?
00:46No, definitely going through with the coaching staff, doing all the stuff we have to do off the pitch. We definitely thought we could cause a lot of problems.
00:53Obviously watching their game against Coventry, seeing the problems they caused and we thought we could do that as well, which I think we did.
00:58I thought we were really good on the ball at times today. 4-2, but I don't think it was a 4-2 game per se. I thought we were in the game for long periods of the match.
01:08But yeah, that's what sometimes good teams can do to you when you're in the blink of an eye and you're 4-2 down.
01:13It must have been really gutting as well to have gone ahead twice in the game and been good value for it as well.
01:20Yeah, that just shows the character of the team. Amazing bunch of lads and obviously going up twice at Old Trafford.
01:30Like I said, I touched on it before, the away fans are amazing and stuff like that.
01:35But yeah, at the end of the day, we come away with nothing. But yeah, I thought we were really competitive.
01:41Fifth goal for yourself in Sheffield United colours and a really good move as well and a good pick-out from Ben.
01:46Yeah, I'm really happy to get another goal. Great team move. Also, the first goal was a pressing, we worked on that, pressing from the top and Bogues, another lovely finish.
01:57So yeah, two good goals. Now we've just got to get our heads down, work on the pitch and then go up to Newcastle over there and try and get positive results, something for the fans to cheer about.
02:07You must feel with performances recently and the way you've managed to go at these last couple, that you can finish with a couple of wins at least?
02:16No, definitely. I've only been here since Christmas and the team's got some amazing quality and we need to start getting a few more points on the board, game by game and trying to nick a few points.
02:32And you mentioned the fans already tonight. I think the reception that they gave you afterwards says everything about what they thought about the performance tonight.
02:39Definitely. You can always tell the performance if the fans are happy and I thought they were brilliant all the way through the game.
02:45Even when we were down, they were staying there, cheering us on and giving us a big clap, which as players and the staff, we appreciate that.
02:52And like I've said, since I've been here, the fans at Sheffield United have always been brilliant.
02:59You seem to have enjoyed your time in the few months that you've been with the club. Is that fair?
03:03No, definitely. I've loved every minute of it here. The coaching staff, the players, obviously knowing a few of the staff and players and it's been really, really good for me.
03:11I've really enjoyed my time and it's been amazing. The fans have accepted me nicely as well, so I've really enjoyed my time.
03:18Is there any chance we could see you in a Sheffield United shirt beyond the end of this season?
03:23We'll see at the end of the season. I don't know what's happening with Villarreal and stuff like that.
03:29But yes, we'll see. I just want to keep playing, scoring goals and we'll see where that takes me.
