00:00 Because rabies is a hot topic right now,
00:03 free anti-rabies vaccination is available for the first-time and born-to-be-wild in Tondo, Manila.
00:08 Some fur parents have already lined up to get vaccinated for their pets against rabies.
00:15 The Department of Health is also involved in the vaccination.
00:18 According to the DOH, rabies-prone animals are dangerous and can die.
00:23 They can be infected by bites, licks or the movement of animals.
00:30 It is better to avoid it by giving rabies vaccination to your pets.
00:36 If a dog or cat bites you, wash your wound and get vaccinated against rabies.
00:44 Also, go to the nearest health center or hospital even if you don't have any symptoms.
00:52 In the midst of this hot weather, everyone is asking,
00:56 "When will it rain?"
00:59 We will talk about this with the Assistant Weather Services Chief, Chris Perez.
01:04 Good morning and welcome to our news this afternoon.
01:08 Good morning Connie and to all our viewers.
01:11 We have news that some places in the country have been flooded with ice,
01:15 like in Carmen, Cotabato.
01:18 What is the reason for that?
01:20 This weekend, Thunderstorm Advisory issued our message to the Mindanao Regional Services Division.
01:27 It mentioned that from 2 pm to 6 pm on Saturday,
01:32 we have an ongoing thunderstorm that can cause rain, windstorm and that's it.
01:38 It also includes occasional ice rain, in some cases, tornado formation in the north of Cotabato area and in some parts of Mindanao area.
01:47 So, it happened that the ice rain in some parts of Cotabato area was caused by a severe thunderstorm.
01:54 A thunderstorm can cause rain and strong winds,
01:58 but a severe thunderstorm or a stronger thunderstorm can cause rain and ice,
02:02 like what we experienced in some parts of Mindanao this weekend.
02:07 I see. Okay.
02:07 But there are also other places, like Ipu-Ipu, right?
02:11 Is this more common when the weather is hot?
02:16 That's right Connie.
02:18 Because we're in dry months or dry season in our country,
02:21 like March, April and May,
02:24 not because it's dry months and we're not getting rained,
02:27 the possibility of isolated thunderstorm activity is higher.
02:31 The thunderstorm activity usually lasts for five minutes and the longest is up to two hours.
02:37 So these thunderstorms can cause rain,
02:40 strong winds, strong winds and severe thunderstorms in their area.
02:46 The rain can be caused by ice or hail,
02:48 or tornadoes or Ipu-Ipu in one place.
02:52 Okay.
02:52 If we experience Ipu-Ipu or tornadoes,
02:56 what should we do if it happens in a nearby area?
03:02 Well, first of all, the Thunderstorm Advisory will issue a warning
03:05 if we monitor small and fast-moving thunderstorms that can affect our area.
03:12 So the most important thing is monitoring.
03:15 Second, if we see heavy rain that can suddenly fall on their area,
03:20 it will only cause a storm.
03:22 It's better to be careful.
03:23 If we work or are exposed to open areas,
03:27 like those who are with us in the construction industry or in the middle of the forest,
03:32 it's better to be careful and to avoid rain and strong winds.
03:36 Sometimes, there are even accidents and landslides
03:39 when it rains, ice and tornadoes.
03:42 Finish the thunderstorm activity before we resume our outdoor activities, Connie.
03:47 Thank you for the reminder.
03:48 But this is what we heard first,
03:53 that until the second week of May, it will be very hot.
03:58 But of course, the question is, when will our country really have a storm?
04:03 And is it possible that a storm will come to us?
04:08 Well, Connie, for now, since we're almost done with the El Niño episode,
04:13 the storms we're expecting are very rare.
04:15 But in the month of May, we're expecting at least one to two storms
04:19 that can be monitored by the weather.
04:21 However, if it's right or not,
04:24 that's what we'll look for that will possibly happen in the coming months.
04:28 In terms of the rain that we're usually experiencing,
04:31 usually during the second half of every year,
04:33 the month of June and July, that's when the rain will start in our country.
04:37 But if that's the case, I hope everything will be fine.
04:40 So, we'll just wait for the El Niño and the Calis, sir.
04:46 But of course, that's for our next interview.
04:51 Thank you very much for your update on us.
04:54 Pag-asa Assistant Weather Services Specialist, Chris Perez.
04:58 [music]
05:00 Yes, you heard it right.
05:01 There's free drinking water.
05:04 That's what a Jeepney driver in Tarlac City is eagerly waiting for.
05:09 Inside his Jeep, there's a big water jug and plastic cups.
05:15 Because of the free water,
05:16 a greeting to him is from the passenger, Michaela Nelmida,
05:20 who uploaded a trending photo.
05:22 According to the driver, Joel Bondoc,
05:24 he's been driving for 18 years
05:26 and even though he's making a lot of money,
05:29 he's happy to help.
05:31 His smile is enough to thank his passengers.
05:34 "Kuya Joel, you're trending already?
05:37 Good job!"
05:38 "As long as your passengers don't drink 1, 2, 3."
05:42 "The water is free."
05:44 [music]
05:45 Here's the breaking news.
05:47 General Santos City Water District is in a mess
05:51 because of the loss of dozens of meters of water.
05:54 Since March, 66 meters have been stolen.
06:00 They've already contacted the police about this
06:03 and called on the public to report immediately
06:05 if there's a thief who stole meters.
06:09 They've also filed a complaint to the authorities.
06:13 [music]
06:15 A man was killed after fighting the police
06:17 in the entrapment operation of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency,
06:22 or LULUKSULU.
06:24 The suspect was given 2 kilos of humanoid shabu
06:29 that is worth Php 13.6 million.
06:34 The humanoid shabu, worth almost Php 4 million,
06:38 was found in a by-bus operation in Barangay Santol,
06:42 in Balayan, Batangas.
06:44 The suspect was arrested as a high-value individual
06:47 in the Batangas Drug Watch List.
06:49 He was given several packets of shabu
06:53 that weighed more than 500 grams.
06:56 He was not released.
06:58 Samantha Catantan, who was fenced off in the 2024 Paris Olympics,
07:01 has already qualified.
07:04 Samantha competed in the finals of the Women's Foil Event
07:08 of the Asia and Oceania Zonal Olympic Qualifier
07:12 in the United Arab Emirates on Saturday.
07:15 Even though she was being framed,
07:16 she won the Kazakhstan Cup with a score of 15-14.
07:21 In her victory, she was the 12th Filipino to compete in the Olympics
07:26 based on the list of the Philippine Olympic Committee.
07:29 Congrats, Samantha!
07:31 Let's admit that the reactions of many are negative
07:37 whenever they hear a child crying.
07:39 Yes, but in Tokyo, Japan,
07:42 the twins won in the wrestling match.
07:46 Here it is!
07:47 The sumo wrestlers are fighting one-on-one in the ring.
07:52 But the difference is that it's not like a wrestling match.
07:55 There's no contact because the winner in the match
07:58 will be the first to cry.
08:00 If there's a tie,
08:02 the winner will be the one to cry.
08:04 Yes, for the sole sole.
08:06 And as a start, the organizers
08:08 are wearing colorful masks.
08:10 And just a reminder,
08:12 they don't treat 100 children.
08:15 It's a tradition that started in 1991.
08:19 It's believed that the twins grow up healthy and fast.
08:24 That's the Crying Baby Sumo Festival certified!
08:28 Wow!
08:30 The kids really need to cry.
08:32 Yes, they need to be strong.
