00:00On behalf of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, I now declare today Semi-Hagar Day in Hollywood!
00:19Wow.
00:20Thank you.
00:22Just simplest thing you can ever say to someone is thank you when you mean it.
00:27And believe me, I mean it right now.
00:30Not just my friends that spoke.
00:34The idea of where I came from in life and where my beginnings were, and to have this
00:42here, the amount of people that I would have to think it would be impossible to do in one
00:50day.
00:51So, that's impossible.
00:54There's so many people that aren't here that I need to thank.
00:57You know, Eddie Van Halen, Ronnie Montrose, Ed Leffler, my old manager, people like that.
01:03That did a lot for, yeah, for my musical songwriting and breaks in life and there's just so many
01:15people to thank.
01:16So, I'm going to try to keep it simple and I promise all the people that deserve a thank
01:22you on this thing right here, I will get to you on the phone or I'll get in your face
01:26somewhere.
01:27And we're going to get that done, but it's going to take a while because every person
01:30here deserves a multiple thank you.
01:35You can't do all this, you can't achieve all this without people's help.
01:42If I stood here and said I did this all myself, I wouldn't be here.
01:46You guys wouldn't let me be here.
01:49So it's an honor and the Commerce for doing this, the Selective Committee, that's the
01:54one that my publicist Hannah gave me a list of three people and, you know, Anna Martinez,
02:02because I don't like to write speeches, I just like to just talk.
02:05So, but the Walk of Fame, the Selection Committee, they deserve a thank you because they selected
02:12me, you know?
02:14Damn!
02:16I don't, I don't know how they make their selections, but hey, I'll take it.
02:22Anyway, really cool, really cool.
02:24My sisters are here.
02:26Fortunately, my mother couldn't be here.
02:28My mother was in love with the Walk of Fame in the 60s.
02:32We didn't have anything, maybe enough gas money to make it to the beach and four kids
02:36raised by a single mom.
02:38And she would want to come down here and see the movie stars.
02:42She was really in love with the movie industry and, you know, Clark Gable and those guys.
02:47And I remember seeing this thing and to think, I mean, it was just way beyond even a dream.
02:53You know, you have dreams and then you have the dream that you didn't dream.
02:58This is one of those dreams that come true that I didn't dream.
03:02And wow, I could go on and on about that.
03:06But I do want to say what people ask me, what makes you most proud?
03:12What are you, what are you the most proud of?
03:14All the things you've done, you know, when you're old like me, you can do, have done
03:17a lot of things.
03:18So I've done a lot of things.
03:20And I think, you know, raising four kids, Aaron, Andrew, Kama, Samantha, and none of
03:27them ever got in trouble.
03:28We never ever had to, you know, go bail them out of jail or take them into rehab or anything.
03:35Man, that's, I'm proud of that.
03:42They did me right.
03:43They turned out to be good human beings.
03:44And that's a great reflection on a parent.
03:46You know, when people tell you, you got great kids, oh, I love your daughter, oh, I love
03:50your sons.
03:51That's, that's very meaningful.
03:53It makes, makes me feel good about myself and about my wife.
03:57And of course, Kari, anybody that don't recognize Kari, just look for the most beautiful woman
04:02in this town, not just on this street.
04:06Well, that's her to start with, at least in my eyes.
04:11And Kari has been hanging out with me now for 32 years.
04:19And I mean, yeah, she's been holding on for dear life.
04:24It's like riding on a rocket ship being around me.
04:27I can't help myself.
04:28And I'm just one of those people that's driven.
04:32And it's partly because of my humble beginnings.
04:35But it's not just because that it's just part of my DNA.
04:38I love doing things.
04:40And I figured the more you can do in life, the more you can help other people.
04:45And that's what it always ends up to be with me.
04:48Someone says, hey, you want to start this restaurant over here?
04:52I think, yeah, I'll, you know, I'll employ some people.
04:57And I give the money away to the local community.
05:00Like there's nothing wrong with that.
05:01I would like to have 5,000 restaurants in every community I would be in.
05:06I give that money back to the community, mainly food banks and to hospitals of children that
05:10need help.
05:13So yeah, I'm driven.
05:16Let's go.
05:17You know, I'm, you know, Guy Fieri, my dear friend over here and partner, he's, he's worse
05:22than me, by the way.
05:24So in a good way.
05:28Well, so Bakari, she's been hanging in there.
05:32And I can't tell you how I enjoy having a partner.
05:38Every time something good happens.
05:41I don't want to share that by myself.
05:43I don't want to live in a beautiful home and drive fast cars and, and walk on a beautiful
05:50beach without my wife.
05:52You know, it's really important to have a partner that supports you, and that you want
05:58to be with and be around.
06:00And that's Kari.
06:03Now, and by the way, john Mayer, I got to say one more thing about him, he, he calls
06:13me in a car on FaceTime, that handsome devil, you know, here I'm sitting around my house
06:17in a bathing suit, you know, no shirt at my age, and I mean, he's FaceTiming me, trying
06:23to tell me how cool some song that he's listening to that I wrote or sang on.
06:27And he goes off and says all these wonderful things.
06:30And, and can you imagine I'm sitting there going, this old guy here going, this is john
06:35Mayer on the phone telling me, you're the greatest man.
06:38I love you, man.
06:39You know, your music has changed my life.
06:44Imagine that.
06:45Okay.
06:47That's what I have to put up with stuff like that.
06:52Michael Anthony over here.
06:57Mike and Sue.
07:00So Mike, you know, as my partner in crime, we've been like this uns separable since 1985.
07:06When I was 86, whatever it was, when I walked into Van Halen 5150 recording studio, Mike
07:12and I, boom, we, you know, we're, we're, we're attached
07:17at the hip.
07:18I've always said that Ed and Al are the real brothers by name, but Mike and I are the real
07:22brothers by nature.
07:23And we got work to do this summer, Mike.
07:27We got work to do.
07:28Well, we got a lot of fun to have, let me, I'm going to start, I'm going to take John's
07:32line in that.
07:33Yes, I do like to have fun.
07:34And yeah, we're, we got a lot of fun to have this summer.
07:37Chad Smith sitting over there.
07:38I'm really sorry, Chad, that guy was Guy Fieri sitting on your star, but I'm honored to have
07:45my star next to the red hot chili pepper, Chad, you know, and the chicken foot and all
07:49that stuff.
07:50Okay.
07:51So anyway, I'm running out of things to say, but I'm getting, I'm starting to, my brain
07:55is starting to like think of too many things and I'll be up here all night.
07:57But I just want to say from where I started, I'm most proud of being from Fontana, California.
08:09Started out with nothing.
08:11Okay.
08:12We never owned a home.
08:14We barely owned a car, alcoholic father, abusive.
08:19My mother raised four kids without an education.
08:24When I was young, that used to embarrass me.
08:28But now I'm so proud of that to be here with that star and come from nothing that makes
08:37me proud.
08:44I want to thank everybody.
08:45Thank you.
08:46Thank you.
08:47Thank you.
08:48And God bless you.
08:49Be healthy.
08:50The fans, the fans, listen, they're crazy.
08:57They are the most loyal people I've ever met in my life.
09:00They right up there with my family is for loyalty and they are my extended family.
09:04Everyone says, is this going to be your last tour?
09:06Everybody says, is this going to be your last tour?
09:09I don't have a last tour in me, okay?
09:12My DNA doesn't ever quit.
09:13My DNA isn't about retirement.
09:16Like John says, my DNA is let's go keep doing it, keep having fun.
09:20So the only thing, if I quit, it'd be like Gurdjieff.
09:24I don't know if anyone ever knew about Gurdjieff's story, but supposedly his followers on his
09:27death bed, he said, I was wrong, right?
09:32That would be like me retiring to my fans.
09:34It would be like me going, sorry, I quit, leave you guys hanging out here.
09:38But if I did, I would leave you on a really beautiful beach, I promise.
09:43Thank you.
