00:00We are still here in Espana, particularly here in Pinoval Street in Manila where the groups of workers are starting to gather on Labor Day.
00:14One of their calls is for a 150 pesos daily recovery increase across the board.
00:23DOLE is saying that the Regional Tripartite Wage Board has already implemented an increase in the wages of the workers.
00:32But the workers are still calling for a wage increase.
00:39What they are saying is that they need a living wage.
00:44There are different groups here. There is PISTON, KILUSANG MAYO UNO, TUCP, Trade Union Congress of the Philippines.
00:52At this point, we will talk to one of the working students. What is your name?
00:59Daniela Rariego.
01:01Where do you work?
01:02In a BPO company.
01:04How is your salary there?
01:07Our salary is really low. It is not enough for someone like me who is studying while working.
01:16How much do you think should be the salary of someone like you who is working?
01:22For me and for the majority, it is important that the DNP is giving the minimum wage.
01:31I want to push the national minimum wage to 1,100 pesos.
01:38To remove the regional wages.
01:42Because the truth is that in the Philippines, the expenses are not different in each region.
01:48And the expenses are continuously increasing wherever you are in the Philippines.
01:53Thank you very much. I hope your calls will be heard.
01:57Meanwhile, I will show you the different groups who are gathering here.
02:02The bike lane and the other lane in May EspaƱa are already occupied.
02:10That is why we can see that the bike lane is closing because the other lanes are already occupied.
02:20At this point, we will talk to Ian Porquiao from Bien, Philippines.
02:26Good morning to you, sir.
02:28Yes, good morning.
02:30Can you give us an idea of what the protesters are fighting for?
02:36Because the regional tripartite wage board has already given the gift to the workers.
02:43The truth is that the wage increase has already been implemented.
02:47So what else are you asking for?
02:50Actually, we are from the BPO Industry Employees Network Philippines, the workers of the call center.
02:56We are not covered by the wage increase that the Department of Labor is saying.
03:01In fact, the 35 pesos or 30 pesos that they gave last year, it is almost different if we consider the inflation.
03:08Many companies are saying that the living wage should be 1,200 pesos per day,
03:14the salary of the workers, but the wage increase they gave is not enough.
03:20So now, since the wage increase has already been implemented and after one more year,
03:28what do you think will be the target of your protest and do you think it will be heard?
03:37Well, our main call right now is to raise the wage across the board.
03:42We would like to have 31,000 entry-level workers in all call centers in the Philippines.
03:51And we are also supporting the so-called living wage.
03:56We want the quality of life of the residents to be decent, but the government cannot give it.
04:03A simple 150 pesos wage increase or even the 750 pesos across-the-board wage increase, they cannot give it.
04:09So it means that we cannot expect anything from the administration of Marcos.
04:12Have you already talked to the Department of Labor and Employment about this,
04:16so that your talk will be more sit-down and will be heard?
04:23Actually, it has been several times since the high-level tripartite mission until the regional wage consultations.
04:30We have given our position paper several times that we want to have a living wage here in our country.
04:37So from here, you will march?
04:39Yes, from here, all the workers will march to Mindola.
04:46We are just waiting for our other colleagues and we will go to Mindola.
04:50Thank you very much, Sir Ian from Bian, Philippines.
04:53Take care of your protest. Happy Labor Day.
04:56Thank you.
