00:00Hi there, it's Rachel Cullahan from the Warrnambool Standard. I'm here on day one of the May Racing Carnival with Warrnambool Racing Club committee member Marie Lane.
00:09Marie, tell me, are you gearing up for a fantastic three days of racing?
00:13I am, I'm quite excited. I've just joined the committee at the end of last year, so it's my first carnival as a committee member rather than a patron.
00:21So the different perspective this year, and it's been fascinating to prepare for the carnival as a committee member rather than just a racegoer and seeing it all from a different angle.
00:32And I know there's hours and hours of hard work that go into this, hundreds and thousands of hard working hours. Tell me, what's been one big eye-opener for you? As you said, you've always been a racegoer but now joining the committee.
00:46I knew an event like this required a lot of work, but really the amount of work that the staff put in. I don't want to confuse the work that we do as a committee with the work that the staff do.
00:58It wouldn't have happened without them. We were talking about this even before I was on the committee, what might be happening and what needs to happen and ideas for the carnival for 2024.
01:16So really, the planning begins as the last race is running on day three.
01:22Now, have you got any hot tips for the week?
01:25I actually have a family member with Vanguard. A family member's got a share in Vanguard.
01:30She's my family member.
01:31Ah, there you go. So yeah, that's the tip for Thursday in the grand annual.
01:35We just also had Bazzini run in the second, so they were my two sentimental tips for the week.
01:42I'm keeping my cards close to my chest for tomorrow. I'm keen to see how the course rates tomorrow before I lock in my tips for tomorrow.
01:51Beautiful. Thank you, Marie. That's wonderful.
01:53No worries.
01:55Thank you.
