The Kshatriya community in Gujarat is outraged at BJP leader Puroshottam Rupala’s snide remark that erstwhile 'maharajas' broke bread with the British and married their daughters to them. While protest started in Rajkot, from where Rupala is BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate, it has spread to other parts of the state where the community has sizeable presence. In Miyagam, a village in Vadodara district, which falls under Bharuch Lok Sabha seat, the community has put up banners deriding Rupala and have threatened to boycott the BJP unless Rupala's candidature is cancelled. The Kshayriyas have been traditional supporters of the saffron outfit.

00:10 Hi, this is Sharmita Kaur reporting from Gujarat for Outlook.
00:13 Today we are in Bharuch Lok Sabha constituency and we are seeing some interesting developments here.
00:19 24 villages here, predominantly populated by the Kshatriya community, are putting up posters and protesting against Purushottam Tripala.
00:29 There is a big protest going on in the court. Are the people here also thinking of opposing?
00:35 We are not thinking of opposing them, we are already opposing them.
00:38 How are you opposing them? We saw the posters in which you said that you will not vote for Purushottam Tripala.
00:48 But for many years, the vote has been going for the BJP.
00:53 We were also a BJP before Rupala ji said.
01:00 There is not a single person less in that.
01:04 But after Rupala ji said, even in the centre, it was not done after we asked for a ticket.
01:14 So what should the government do to solve this?
01:18 Call Rupala back. She is not coming back.
01:24 We will vote against the BJP.
01:31 They are angry with him in view of the remarks that he made against the community.
01:37 Despite the protest and the anger amongst the community, which forms a large voter base for the BJP,
01:45 the BJP has still fielded Purushottam Tripala from Rajkot Lok Sabha constituency.
