00:16 Today, President Bongbong Marcos has an order
00:19 to the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards
00:22 to initiate a timely review of the minimum wage rates in their respective regions.
00:29 With due consideration.
00:31 [Applause]
00:32 With due consideration to the impact of inflation amongst others
00:36 within 60 days prior to the anniversary of their latest wage order.
00:42 The minimum wage in BARMM is only up to P361, which is the lowest in the country.
00:47 The next highest increase is P20 in February.
00:51 The highest in Metro Manila is up to P610.
00:55 The next highest increase is P40 in June 2023.
00:59 Sometimes, the minimum wage can increase within a year.
01:02 But in Metro Manila, the President is saying that it's up to 60 days.
01:05 To review if there should be a new minimum wage.
01:08 The President also ordered the National Wages and Productivity Commission
01:12 to review the regulations to ensure regular and fair wage review.
01:16 There will be a 150 pesos legislated wage hike that has been approved by the Senate
01:21 but it's still in the chamber.
01:23 Legislated from the Regional Wage Board.
01:25 The additional wage hike has been approved by the National Anti-Poverty Commission.
01:28 The additional wage hike is important because as he said earlier during his speech,
01:36 the increase of some primary prices of goods is also serious.
01:42 In fact, it's monitored by the increase of electricity prices, especially in the increasing heat of the time.
01:49 I think that the call of President Bongbong Marcos is justified.
01:55 We tried to get the Panic! Employers Confirmation of the Filipino Eco,
01:59 but they are not answering our calls.
02:02 But they said that it can result in the removal of jobs,
02:06 increase of the price of goods, or even closure if the wage hike is not allowed, especially for small businesses.
02:12 More than 90 percent of our existing enterprises are in the category of micro, small and medium enterprises.
02:21 So in our view, in the needs of the workers, we balance it with the capacity or ability of the employers.
02:29 It's also important that there are a lot of jobs,
02:31 that's why the President's order to the Congress is to pass laws to increase the number of jobs.
02:35 There are also a lot of small jobs and investments that are entering the country.
02:39 The President also pointed out to the DOLE the underemployment
02:42 through skills training so that the Filipino can have more ability in their jobs here in the country or abroad.
02:48 For the OFWs, the President also ordered the Department of Migrant Workers.
02:53 Let us continue to mobilize the 2.8 billion peso action fund
02:58 and provide protection for distressed OFWs to provide forms of assistance to OFWs
03:04 requiring welfare, repatriation and reintegration services.
03:09 For GMA Integrated News, Ivan Mejrina, for Tutok, 24 hours.
