00:20 Dog Race gets underway.
00:22 Despite earlier concerns about the weather, thousands of people have turned out to support
00:26 the event and raise money for the local public school.
00:29 The Great Nundle Dog Race is an amazing day out for all dogs and their family members
00:33 as well as our major fundraiser for the Nundle Peninsula.
00:37 Last year we raised over $22,000 and this year we're hoping to do that again.
00:41 And all the money goes straight to the school?
00:43 Yeah, all the money goes straight back to the school and the children of the school.
00:47 Parents don't have to pay anything so we definitely look after our students and our parents.
00:52 The Great Nundle Dog Race has a rich 45-year history dating back to 1979 when it started
00:58 as a friendly bet between farmers over whose dog was the fastest.
01:03 Since then, it's grown into a major tourist attraction, drawing participants and spectators
01:07 from across the region.
01:09 And with several events from the Doggy High Jump to the Best Dressed Dog Fashion Parade,
01:14 there's a little something for everyone to enjoy.
01:17 What's something you love about the Great Nundle Dog Race?
01:19 Well, we've just moved to Tamworth a few weeks ago and this is only my second time
01:23 out to Nundle and I'd have to say it's a really good community atmosphere.
01:28 I've seen all the people down here from the day, all the dogs, it's exciting seeing
01:32 so many other new dogs.
01:34 Beautiful weather, very relaxed atmosphere.
01:39 The dogs are cute.
01:41 I love to see the dogs having fun.
01:44 The main race is a 100-metre sprint across the Nundle Recreation Ground.
01:50 Some pups make a beeline sprint straight to their owners, waiting for them on the other
01:54 side of the finish line.
01:57 Meanwhile others take a more creative approach.
02:01 Of course, no event would be complete without the appropriate food to keep festivities going,
02:07 and the Great Nundle Dog Race did not disappoint with their mouth-watering hot dogs.
