00:00 I'm John. I'm Adrian and we are the co-owners of the Old Walkaway.
00:05 The Old Walkaway is on the grounds of what was originally the Walkaway
00:11 and what we want to do is or what we have wanted to do for some time is bring back some nostalgia
00:17 and bring back an iconic bar as it once was 10-15 years ago
00:26 and attempt to regenerate this part of King Street and this is the start of that process.
00:32 We open on the 18th of May. Luckily on that day we're going to play in a semi-final so it's
00:42 worked in our favour very much because we are predominantly a sports bar with seven TVs and
00:52 different sports channels on each TV. We have the ability to do that and we've also installed
00:57 pool tables and dire boards and table football to be able to drive that daytime trade and we
01:07 wanted to provide people with somewhere to go that's not just either drink or sports. We wanted
01:15 to try and encompass different angles that will suit a multitude of activities as to where you
01:25 want to go out. We found that there's not many places in the town centre where you can go in
01:30 and play a pool and enjoy yourself with your friends but also have the ability to listen to
01:36 music and get together at the right price in a town centre and the cost effectiveness is one of
01:44 those things that we want to really emphasise. We've also managed to get old playlists to bring
01:54 back the nostalgia of Walkabout albeit with our own little twist. So we've got DJs on at night
02:00 times to create the old Walkabout environment again with our own little twist. We've not really
02:08 changed a lot in the bar since we took over 2K. We've just introduced a splash of colour, a lot
02:14 of pictures to embrace Wigan, not just sporting but obviously music. Just to create a nice cosy
02:22 environment. And have you both got happy memories of the old Walkabout? Yes, we've basically stood
02:33 in places where we stood for long periods of time over when we used to turn out here.
02:38 So yeah, it holds a special place.
