00:00This still tomorrow is bigger than Barbie and Oppenheimer in its native Italy, but that still
00:04makes it an unusual choice of British cinema chain view to self-distribute nationwide.
00:09Paola Cortelisi directs and stars as an abused housewife who finally stands up to her husband.
00:14Meanwhile, her daughter has become engaged to the son of a well-to-do family,
00:17but she fears the cycle of violence will repeat itself.
00:20In her direct tour debut, Cortelisi delicately balances the tone with enough warm,
00:25well-observed humour to offset the tough subject matter, with much of the violence
00:30implied off-screen or in one sequence stylised as a musical number.
00:34The film is set post-WWII, with the political and cultural changes taking place
00:39echoed in the arc of the main character as she recovers her agency and independence,
00:43which creates for an empowering and engrossing watch.
00:46It's very culturally specific, but it's a universal crowd-pleaser as you
00:50root for her to get the hell away from this P.O.S.
00:54It's unlikely to replicate its success in Italy, but this is a great movie that comes recommended.
