00:00 And once again has done it in a time trial at a Grand Tour.

00:04 Fantastic ride from a champion beyond compare at the moment in the Giro d'Italia.

00:10 Taddei Pagaccia takes one almighty stride towards victory in Rome.

00:16 Stage 8 and another severe mountain test and an opportunity potentially

00:27 for the GC riders to make gains in the overall classification.

00:31 152km from a start in Spoleto to a finish on the famous climb in the Abruzzon Appennines to Prati di Tivo.

00:40 It was always going to be a day where the breakaway would fancy their chances of success

00:44 and as a result on the first uncategorised climb of the day it was very attacking with Julian Alaphilippe

00:50 repeatedly trying to prize a group of pure climbers away.

00:53 Martin Maciulusi went off in pursuit of Alaphilippe at the front of the race.

00:59 Over the top of the first uncategorised climb as they headed towards the first categorised climb of the day, the Capistrello.

01:05 Groups ebbed and flowed.

01:07 UAE Team Emirates concerned that the race was getting out of control and that too many riders were up the road.

01:13 Eventually though a 14 rider group established itself at the front of the race as they hit the Capistrello climb.

01:20 The Pink Jersey content to have his team limiting the advantage of the breakaway riders on the front.

01:25 And at the front Julian Alaphilippe as well as Nairo Quintana and a number of other riders,

01:30 Jonathan Navias included, the winner of stage 1, as well as Romain Bardet and Georg Steinhauser, Simon Geschka,

01:37 tried to get clear.

01:39 3.6km to go and towards the top Simon Geschka took the maximum 18 points in the King of the Mountains competition.

01:47 On the descent then, Romain Bardet and Julian Alaphilippe tried to extend the advantage of the breakaway riders

01:54 who went through the sprint at Leonessa all together with an advantage of nearly 2 minutes,

02:00 but they grew and extended every time they got on a descent.

02:04 UAE Team Emirates though were riding like they meant business.

02:08 Inter Giro sprint went to Romain Bardet who was in the hunt for bonus seconds.

02:13 He was the best placed rider in the general classification at 5.23 down

02:18 and then over the top of the Cat 3 climb, the Croceo Abio, their advantage was only 1 minute and 22 seconds.

02:25 On the Pratitivo climb then, Magnus Sheffield got on the front

02:29 as the breakaway started to crumble under pressure from UAE Team Emirates.

02:35 Doma Novak, the Slovenian, riding it down

02:39 and just when they were about to be caught, Valentin Paré-Pintre of the Catalan Aiguille du Toit Le Mondial went solo

02:45 with 10km to go and it would be a while before he was caught.

02:49 Great attack then from the young Frenchman trying to emulate the feats of his brother

02:53 who took a stage victory at the Giro d'Italia last year.

02:57 He went through the final sprint on his own but soon thereafter he was caught.

03:03 In the final few kilometres then, Rafa Maika got on the front

03:05 as all the GC favourites lined up behind Tadej Pogacar.

03:09 An attack from Antonio Tiberi followed by the Magliorosa.

03:13 Tiberi trying to get Kjan Uterbroeks into trouble in pursuit of his bid to win the white jersey.

03:20 Tumin Aronsson then launched an attack, the teammate of Geraint Thomas also followed

03:25 with consummate ease by Tadej Pogacar.

03:28 Rafa Maika grimacing with his team leader on his wheel.

03:31 Here they come now, Dani Martínez, the first of the big favourites.

03:34 The podium riders to open up his sprint, pushing to the line, 200 metres to go.

03:38 But it's the man in the Magliorosa who hits the front

03:41 and Martínez trying to slay in his slipstream

03:44 but Pogacar just blasts away from the Colombian

03:48 and he's going to make it two wins in two days at the Giro d'Italia.

04:09 Win number 10 of 2024 for Pogacar ahead of Martínez and O'Connor, Tiberi in fourth place.

04:17 And adding a few more seconds to his lead in the general classification.

04:20 Martínez, two, gaining time on Geraint Thomas in third.

04:24 An almost unassailable lead in the King of the Mountains competition

04:27 already for Tadej Pogacar on 104 points.

04:31 And in the white jersey, Kjærn Utterbroeks is back in control of the young riders classification.
