00:00Hi, I'm David Kesson, I'm one of the reporters at The Star, and today I'm dressed up as the frog out of The Good Person of Szechuan, which is one of the productions that was at the Crucible in 2023, and it's one of a number of items that's up for sale.
00:23It's being sold off in a sale that's happening this Saturday, that's May the 18th, at the Crucible.
00:32Could you tell me about this costume please?
00:36So this is one of two costumes from our White Christmas production, and it's been put together with two different Szechuan fabrics.
00:49All this has been machine embroidered together, and there's the headdress to match.
00:58Was it an American soap company?
01:02Yeah, it was for an advertisement section on the television, and it was a moment in the play when the world started off in black and white, and then Technicolour comes into their life.
01:13So the Oxydor girls are really pingy bright colours, really sparkly, and they walk through a television set onto the stage.
01:21Which show was that?
01:22This was White Christmas.
01:24And the bubbles on the headdress, we had a bigger version of bubbles on the back, a big train of them, which looked quite dramatic when they walked on stage.
01:34And the balloons had to be inflated every single night, which was a challenge.
01:40It was warm for a few minutes.
01:42Yeah, about a two minute section at the most.
01:44But it looked very effective.
01:46Here are a couple of items with celebrity links to them in the Crucible costume sale. Could you tell me about them please?
01:52Well, this was a coat made for John Sim in Hamlet quite a few years ago.
01:59It's got detachable cape.
02:01Detachable cape. It's very, very elegant. It's very glamorous. Made from pure wool.
02:07It's beautiful fabric.
02:09Yeah, very nice fabric.
02:10It's really soft.
02:11But it was never worn, was it?
02:13Never worn.
02:14It got cut before it made the stage.
02:16So it's brand new.
02:17Did you wear it in rehearsals?
02:18I wore it in rehearsals, in technical rehearsal, and then it was cut.
02:22They cut it.
02:23Yeah, unfortunately.
02:24And you've got a pair of trousers as well with a celebrity name to them. Tell me about those.
02:28These are Joseph Fiennes trousers from Edward II.
02:32This was a good few years ago, wasn't it?
02:35Yeah.
02:36Could you tell me about this garment that you've got here please? What was it from?
02:40Yeah, this was from our production of Pride and Prejudice.
02:43One of many costumes that we made.
02:46And it was made from a sari which we cut into.
02:51And it works very well.
02:53It's been through a rough ride, hasn't it?
02:56Yes.
02:57But it's still got a lot of life left in it.
02:59I think a good dry clean, it'll come back to life.
03:01It was Caroline Bingley's character, wasn't it?
03:04Yes.
03:05So it was an extremely glamorous, very high-end, one of the richer characters in it.
03:10Tell me please about the costumes that you've got here and what they're from.
03:13These two costumes are from Annie Get Your Gun.
03:16They were worn by AJ Casey.
03:20This one was worn by AJ.
03:22This one was worn by one of the ensemble as the opening number.
03:25So this was kind of like a circus performer.
03:29This was meant to look like a costume.
03:31So it's really well worn, really well loved.
03:34Whereas this one was from a scene where the main character was at a ball.
03:40So it's much more period accurate.
03:43It's in beautiful condition, this one.
03:46Very nice, yes.
03:47It looks like it hasn't been worn.
03:49AJ was very good with her costumes.
03:51She was.
03:52We love her.
