00:00Live from the GMA Network Center, 20 years on air, 24 Hours.
00:11Good evening, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
00:15It's hard to ride a few commuters now that the number of jeepneys is decreasing.
00:22This is followed by the first LTFRB that will catch the unconsolidated.
00:28A place in Manila to the rescue of stranded tricycles.
00:32Mark Salazar is live.
00:35Mark.
00:41Pia, Vicky, Emil.
00:43Today is the first day of what they call catching the unconsolidated jeepneys.
00:50That's why we went around to see how this will be implemented and how it will affect the passengers.
00:57For example, it turns out that a lot of jeepneys will be stopped today.
01:07There were no jeepneys from a terminal in Nagtahan, Manila this morning.
01:12Their jeepneys are not consolidated yet.
01:15The number of passengers with no vehicles is decreasing.
01:18It's good that the tricycles joined this route.
01:22The passengers are poor.
01:23There are no jeepneys.
01:24None.
01:25None.
01:26I printed money that I used for school.
01:31It's not enough.
01:32When I went to the jeepney, I saw this.
01:35It's only 20 pesos.
01:37I only brought almost 14 pesos.
01:40I'm taking the jeepney to go home.
01:43That's why...
01:45Strike.
01:46I have no choice but to ride a tricycle because when I walk, it's hot.
01:50There is a free jeepney that the LGU of Manila deployed.
01:5440 jeepneys on the route Paco-Rotonda-Nagtahan-Manila did not pass because they are not consolidated.
02:02How can we travel if we are caught by the LTFRB?
02:06We will travel.
02:08We will just pass.
02:09My drivers here have families who feed them.
02:14If they catch us because we are not consolidated.
02:18The passengers who fit in the three modern jeepneys that are still traveling on the route are dismayed.
02:25They should make sure that there is a vehicle for the people because the commuters are poor now.
02:30There is no vehicle.
02:31There are many passengers in the morning.
02:33Not all of them can travel.
02:39In the monitoring of the LTFRB,
02:41there are 313 routes in Metro Manila that have traditional jeepneys that are not consolidated before the April 30 deadline.
02:50They feel the effect on the passengers because many of these routes are traveling from or going to commercial hubs.
02:59In Caloocan-Balintawak, 8 routes were reduced by the jeep.
03:03But the LTFRB said that there are enough routes that are consolidated.
03:0813 routes from and going to Blumentritt were reduced by the jeeps that are traveling.
03:14There are jeeps that are traveling with consolidated traditional jeepneys and e-jeepneys.
03:19Cubao in Quezon City is also the center of transportation.
03:23Where 13 routes are affected by the unconsolidated jeepneys.
03:29But there are no stranded passengers.
03:31In our tour, we did not witness any last minute accident, Emil.
03:37And we also did not witness any wide scene of stranded passengers.
03:43Except for the morning rush hour that we showed in the area of Nagtahan.
03:48But this afternoon, we did not see any serious effect on Tigil Pasada and in the last minute, supposedly.
03:55And we are now witnessing what will be the assessment of the authorities on the first day of their crackdown.
04:01From Quezon City, for GMA Integrated News, Mark Salazar, 24 Hours.
04:07Thank you very much, Mark Salazar.
04:11Ferdinand Guerrero, a businessman, surrendered to the NBI.
04:15He is the only accused in the case of serious illegal detention for the first time.
04:20Ferdinand Guerrero is the only accused in the case of serious illegal detention for the ransom of Vong Navarro.
04:26And John Consulta is on trial.
04:31Last afternoon, NBI Director Minardo Delemos met with Ferdinand Guerrero in Makati City.
04:39After talking to his lawyers, he was arrested by the NBI.
04:43You have the right to remain silent. You can use whatever you want against yourself.
04:52Ferdinand Guerrero was co-accused by Cedric Lee and Denise Corlejo who were convicted in the case of serious illegal detention for ransom
04:59committed by the actor, Vong Navarro.
05:02According to Guerrero, he confessed while appealing his case.
05:07I surrendered everything to the Lord. God is sovereign. God is in total control.
05:12We will elevate his case and we will fight on appeal.
05:17And we are confident in our justice system that Ferdinand Guerrero will be given a fair fight.
05:24The NBI is forcing the arrest of Guerrero to end today.
05:30We will return the warrant to the issuing court and we will let the judge know that Mr. Guerrero is in the custody of the NBI.
05:38We will wait for the commitment order of the judge and we will follow it.
05:45For JMA Integrated News, John Consulta.
05:53President Bongbong Marcos reminded the soldiers to be ready for the new security threats.
05:59Next is the issue of the need for organized destabilization.
06:03Ivan Mayrena is on the line.
06:09After a while, destabilization is being prepared in the hands of retired officers of the Philippine National Police.
06:16President Bongbong Marcos said that he will not allow any weakening and division in the government.
06:23In front of the 4th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army in Northern Mindanao,
06:27the President urged them to be upright in their duties and in their country.
06:31I urge all of you to continue to demonstrate your loyalty, patriotism, and service to the country.
06:38And let that love of country remain as your compass in your duty to our country and to our people.
06:47The President acknowledged the success of the Armed Forces in continuing the weakening of the rebels in Northern Mindanao.
06:52Not only because of the struggle, but also because of the projects that are being conducted in the roots of the rebellion
06:57such as roads, waterways, schools, and health centers, which were funded by the government's 5.3 billion pesos.
07:04The President also sent a message to the troops of the government to study and prepare for the new security threats
07:10and the new battle in the digital space.
07:14I call on you to develop the skills that are going to be required to combat these new forms of warfare,
07:21including those that extend up to the digital realm.
07:25We must be prepared to fight false narratives, disinformation, and digital operations
07:30that seek to sow conflict against us and amongst us.
07:35For GMA Integrated News, Ivan Mejrina reporting for 24 Hours.
07:41The steel in several new NGCP towers in Cebu has already been stolen.
07:47This is an additional problem, especially now that the supply of electricity is lacking.
07:51The effect on the consumer is being pointed out by Mackie Pulido.
07:57Twelve new towers of the National Grid Corporation in Cebu were stolen from the junk shop.
08:04Under the Anti-Pilferage Law, there is a fine of P50 up to P100,000 and a prison term of 12 to 20 years.
08:11It's not just because the NGCP is going to replace it.
08:16There is a real danger that the transmission service will be affected.
08:20There could also be an accident.
08:24In Batangas, the NGCP's problem is the change of the position of the two towers
08:30that are part of the Tui das Marinhas transmission line and substation project.
08:34The NGCP said that because of that, the project could be affected for two years
08:38and the 5,000 megawatts of electricity supply from the newly built plants will not be delivered
08:44Because all expenses are being transferred to the consumers,
08:47it means that these problems are possible due to an increase in the electric bill.
08:51We saw last week that there are red alerts.
08:55If the NGCP does not finish the projects on time, it might explode.
09:01The estimate of the NGCP is that 10 centavos per kilowatt hour
09:05could be added to the transmission charge for the next month.
09:08This is what the NGCP bought from the Reserve Bank of Corrientes last March
09:12that was approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission.
09:15If you consume 200 kilowatt hours per month,
09:18it is possible to add 20 pesos to the electric bill.
09:21Meralco said that it will ask the consumers and they will compute it.
09:25Of course, there is a possibility that the overall rates will increase.
09:30We still need to check the actual amount.
09:37Like many, May does not know where the payment will end
09:40due to the unceasing increase of electricity bills.
09:44I hope that our government will help us.
09:47The first thing that hurts is the increase in the bills.
09:50Instead of buying rice to pay for other things,
09:54if this continues, what should we do?
09:56For GMA Integrated News, Mackie Pulido reporting for 24 Hours.
10:02Despite being surrounded by Chinese ships,
10:05some members of a civilian group were able to receive aid
10:09from the fishermen in the West Philippine Sea.
10:12And live from there, Joseph Moros was able to speak.
10:16Joseph?
10:20Pia, our advance group is near the Baho de Mocinloc.
10:24Meanwhile, the Chinese Coast Guard is on their way.
10:32Yesterday morning, the advance team of our group was able to reach 25 to 30 nautical miles
10:40from the Baho de Mocinloc or Panatog Shoal in the West Philippine Sea.
10:44They were able to provide supplies and gasoline to the Filipino fishermen there.
10:49But it was not easy.
10:51The Chinese Coast Guard and the Chinese Navy were able to surround them.
10:55The Chinese Navy was able to reach the small boat of up to 200 meters
10:59so the group was able to handle it.
11:01That's why our group was able to call their mission a success.
11:04What we can say is that the mission was accomplished.
11:08In the liberation of the West Philippine Sea,
11:10our group wanted to show that this part of the ocean
11:14is not only inside the Exclusive Economic Zone,
11:17but it is also a part of the territory of the Philippines.
11:20After providing supplies to the group near the Mocinloc Sambales,
11:24three Chinese Coast Guard vessels were able to reach the direction of the Panatog Shoal.
11:30Sometimes, Chinese vessels were able to approach the civilian convoy.
11:37But in front of them, from their small boat, they were able to call their mission.
11:46A while ago, only one Chinese Coast Guard vessel was able to reach it.
11:49But recently, two Chinese Coast Guard vessels were able to reach it.
11:52That boat of the Chinese Coast Guard is one of the three Chinese Coast Guard vessels
11:58that were able to reach our group and the BRP Bagakay of the Philippine Coast Guard.
12:04That is a part of the first layer of blockade for this mission here in the West Philippine Sea.
12:11But aside from that, we also saw a boat of the Chinese Navy.
12:16The group was able to provide supplies to the fishermen who were able to reach the area.
12:20In the middle of the sea, the Philippine Coast Guard was able to reach the group.
12:25They were not able to go straight to the Panatog Shoal
12:27because they were able to do the mission of providing supplies to the Filipino fishermen.
12:32In a statement, China stated that this is their territory
12:35and only allows the Filipino fishermen to use their small boats.
12:40But Pia, our government said that this is inside the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines.
12:51Meanwhile, at this time, we will bring our convoy back to Sambales
12:56after their successful mission here, Pia.
13:00Thank you very much, Joseph Moro.
13:03China denied the truth about the Chinese Embassy's allegations.
13:08Many Chinese and Filipinos are now in agreement about the West Philippine Sea.
13:12It clearly stated that this is a follow-up to what happened.
13:16The statement was released after the Philippine Foreign Affairs Department said
13:20that it will investigate the alleged illegal activities of some Chinese diplomats.
13:25It is also alleged that the Chinese Embassy has a recording of the talks between Chinese and Philippine military officials.
13:33Wiretapping is prohibited in the country.
13:36The second reading of the Absolute Divorce Bill was approved by the House of Representatives.
13:41The vote was made by means of viva voce or by the strength of the voice.
13:46In the bill, those who are in a toxic or abusive relationship will be allowed to divorce.
13:53But divorce proceedings must go through a thorough investigation of the court.
14:00Based on the bill, some of the grounds for absolute divorce are
14:04physical abuse to the petitioner or his child,
14:09abuse or coercion to the petitioner to change their religion or political affiliation,
14:15and possession of drugs, alcohol, or alcohol.
14:21Along with the protests of some transport groups,
14:23the police started their day against the unconsolidated jeeps.
14:28But the LTFRB hasn't released anything that will be caught.
14:33Here's Oscar Oida.
14:39It is noteworthy that there are stickers of their own cooperative or corporation
14:43that left the jeeps in Monumento, Caloocan this morning.
14:47This is an indication that these jeeps are consolidated.
14:51Christopher, the choper,
14:53was even caught by GMI Integrated News that there are stickers to avoid being caught.
14:59So that the law enforcement can see that we have complied,
15:05that we are obeying the government in their program.
15:10Today is supposed to be the start of the arrest of the unconsolidated jeeps
15:15headed by the LTO, MMVA, and PNP based on the LTFRB's reminder.
15:21But according to the LTFRB, they haven't released anything that will be caught.
15:26The MMVA also said that they are still waiting for guidelines from the LTFRB
15:31to catch the unconsolidated jeeps.
15:35The LTFRB's reminder to all the consolidated jeeps
15:39is to display their documents on the dashboard or windshield so that they won't be caught.
15:45The unconsolidated jeeps were also reminded by the DOTR not to forcefully travel.
15:53It's clear to the LTFRB that the places where the consolidation is low,
15:59and it's possible that there will be thieves,
16:05the LTFRB and LTO will be there with the police so that the unconsolidated jeeps won't travel.
16:15It is the discipline that is needed.
16:17Their discipline should not be excessive because there is no justice.
16:23The driver can go home with a one-month suspension,
16:26a fine of P50,000 to the operator,
16:29and it's possible that the vehicle will be impounded for 30 days if caught.
16:34Fight! Fight! Fight!
16:37But in the end, some groups like Manibela and Piston marched towards the LTFRB's arrest.
16:45Aren't they happy?
16:47They're taking our franchise that we fight for.
16:51After that, they will take the jeep and impound it.
16:56So what do they want to happen?
16:58It's not about modernization.
17:01It's about the process of what they want to do with it.
17:05Manibela is part of the government,
17:07but we don't want to be insulted.
17:10We don't want to buy the so-called modern vehicles from China.
17:16When I asked what their plan is for the next few days,
17:20Manibela said,
17:22we will not give our jeeps.
17:25We have a franchise.
17:26Only the Congress can revoke it.
17:30We are still waiting for the LTFRB's response about this.
17:34For GM Integrated News, I'm Oscar Oida.
17:3824 Hours.
17:41Although many Filipinos are happy,
17:43it's hard to smile at some of the broken teeth
17:46that amounted to P70 million according to one study.
17:49So the question to the Senate is,
17:51why is the benefit of PhilHealth limited when it comes to oral care?
17:55Ian Cruz is on the scene.
18:01Teeth that are only cleaned with salt.
18:04Some even use sand.
18:08It's really hard to smile at the improper oral health care of many Filipinos.
18:14About P73 million have tooth decay according to the 2018 National Health Survey.
18:2072% have tooth decay,
18:23according to the announcement of the Philippine Dental Association in February.
18:28In the Senate,
18:29other issues that can be brought up are improper oral health.
18:33Studies have shown that gum disease,
18:36missing teeth and other oral health issues
18:40brought about by poor brushing habits and lack of plaque removal
18:44increase a person's risk of stroke.
18:47If buying toothpaste is already hard for many Filipinos,
18:51how about getting a dentist?
18:54So in discussing the amendment of the Universal Health Care Law in the Senate session,
18:59it was questioned why PhilHealth,
19:01which has been around for almost 30 years,
19:03still does not include oral care benefits.
19:07Can we get an explanation? Why?
19:09Isn't that part of the overall health of the Filipinos, Mr. President?
19:13PhilHealth benefits are limited in terms of oral care benefits.
19:18Limited surgeries like tooth extraction or cleft lip or cleft palate surgeries
19:24are not included in private dental clinics
19:27and are not included in basic oral health care services.
19:30This is a big help to the poor like Mary Jane
19:34who needs to prioritize other expenses, especially the widows.
19:37It's just a lack of income.
19:40If we have income, it's just an important thing to use.
19:45So oral health is not a priority?
19:47I don't consider it as a priority anymore.
19:49It's hoped that even basic dental services will be included.
19:53It's okay for me. I can afford it.
19:56That's why it's included in the consideration, according to Senator JV Ejercito,
20:01who is the sponsor of the amendment to the Universal Health Care Law.
20:05When it comes to the overall cleaning, it's included.
20:10But other packages are still under study or honor.
20:13For GMA Integrated News, Ian Cruz, for 24 Hours.
20:19It rained again in some parts of the country earlier this afternoon.
20:23But it hasn't rained yet, according to the forecast.
20:27And if it will rain, it's not yet possible to experience when it comes to La Nina.
20:33And Ivan Mayrena was on the spot.
20:38Although it's still hot in many places, like Igbaras, Iloilo.
20:43Where there are six dead cows or chickens because of the heat index.
20:48The last few days, there were heavy rains.
20:52It's windy in some places, like Mountain Province.
20:57It will happen again this Monday in Quezon City.
21:01But usually, it's not strong and it's just temporary.
21:05According to the forecast, it won't rain yet.
21:07It's just localized thunderstorms.
21:09And it's not yet possible to experience when it comes to La Nina.
21:13It's true that it's hot in the first part of the year.
21:15But it's not yet possible to experience when it comes to July, August and September.
21:20The effect of La Nina will continue until the end of the year.
21:24There will be heavy rains in July, August and September.
21:30So the contribution of La Nina will be higher in October, November and December.
21:37The chance that we will receive more rain will be higher.
21:42According to the DOST forecast, there will be 13 to 16 thunderstorms this year.
21:49We haven't seen any thunderstorms yet.
21:52But it's possible that there will be more thunderstorms in the last 6 months of the year.
21:58There are still chances that there will be thunderstorms.
22:03If the wind is not strong, there will be more rain.
22:09And because sometimes it rains, even if there is no rain,
22:12and the rainfall of La Nina is strong,
22:14DPWH is focusing on projects against flooding.
22:18This year, P349 billion was allocated for flood control projects.
22:23That's not included in the foreign assistance project for major river basins in the country
22:28that because of the siltation, is already decreasing.
22:31There are already completed and ongoing projects.
22:33For example, impounding dams where excess water will be collected whenever it rains
22:37so that it can be used whenever it dries up.
22:39We are accelerating our flood control projects.
22:42We are now again implementing 4,100 flood control projects already.
22:48Task Force El Nino is also the task force that will focus on the effects of La Nina.
22:53The President ordered an update on the hazard maps
22:56so that the disaster response team can be positioned early in the country.
22:59The Department of Agriculture is also talking to the farmers about the steps for La Nina.
23:04The Department of Agriculture is more worried about La Nina
23:09because once the heavy rain falls and there is heavy flooding, the rice fields will be flooded.
23:15For GMA Integrated News, Ivan Mayrena for 24 Hours.
23:20President Bambang Marcos is thinking about the real identity of Bambang Mayor Alice Wu
23:26who is now being investigated by the Senate on the possibility of her involvement in the raid of Pogo Hub.
23:32The President personally acted on the problem of water supply in Cagayan de Oro.
23:36Seryl Chavez of GMA Regional TV for one minute now.
23:43The Senators have questions about the identity of Bambang Mayor Alice Wu of Tarlac.
23:50If she has any connection with the raid of Pogo Hub and her nationality.
23:55Now, President Bambang Marcos also has questions.
24:00In Cagayan de Oro City, he said that this should be investigated.
24:04Because we heard from Bambang and we saw the documents,
24:09we are now questioning if this is true.
24:13And how did she run away from the Mayor.
24:16Because I know all the Tligatang Tarlac politicians.
24:21No one knows her.
24:23So we are wondering where she came from, why she is like this.
24:27We don't know. So we really need to investigate.
24:31One of the big problems in Cagayan de Oro is the issue of water.
24:36After the Cagayan de Oro Bulk Water Supplier Inc. cut the water supply in the city.
24:43The Cagayan de Oro City Water District did not pay its debt.
24:48It is now up to Php 498 million.
24:51The water supply is now restored.
24:54And to resolve the issue, the President himself acted on it.
24:59Along with the conversation with the owner of COBE.
25:02I also ordered the Local Water Utilities Administration to investigate
25:07the possible management of this in the Cagayan de Oro Water District
25:12so that the solution to the situation of water supply in your area can be investigated as soon as possible.
25:22The President also went to Iligan City where he also asked for help from farmers and fishermen affected by El Niño.
25:33From GMA Regional TV One Mindanao, Cyril Chavez, 24 Hours.
25:41Earlier, the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges heard the complaint
25:45against Representative Pantaleon Alvarez for his humanoid disorderly conduct
25:49in a rally in Tagum City.
25:51The one who complained of mayor expulsion or firing a camera,
25:55was the one who was punished by the congressman.
25:57Tina Panganiban Perez was found guilty.
26:01The House Committee on Ethics and Privileges heard the humanoid libelous and seditious statement
26:07of Davao del Norte First District Representative Pantaleon Alvarez
26:11in a rally in Tagum City where the complaint against him by Tagum City Mayor Ray Uy was heard.
26:18Earlier, the two faced the hearing of the committee which was closed to the public.
26:23In addition to Uy's complaint, Alvarez's absence was also mentioned.
26:27Uy said that even though they have been Alvarez's best friends for a long time,
26:31he will not be able to overcome what he did in the rally.
26:34During the rally, the PNP, military, army, President Marcos withdrew their support.
26:48To us, that's unacceptable.
26:54The one who complained of mayor expulsion or firing a camera,
26:57was the one who was punished by the congressman.
26:59That's too much.
27:01Let's not do the freedom of speech.
27:04No matter what we say to our officials, they will apologize.
27:10There will be a lot of suspicions.
27:12I'm sure he's sorry.
27:14Too late.
27:16According to a member of the committee,
27:18Alvarez's call to the AFP, which was backed by the President, is heavy.
27:22They are saying that that does not support the administration anymore.
27:27For me, that will even go to the borders of unconstitutionality.
27:36No matter what the ruling is,
27:38a congressman is hoping that it will be based on the rules of the Chamber.
27:43We just don't want to repeat the example of the decision
27:51made by former representative Arnulfo Tevez.
27:56He did not do the right thing,
28:00but the basis of the decision was challenged
28:03by the use of the terror law.
28:07That reduces the credibility of the entire decision.
28:13That's why it looks like it was a political move.
28:18Alvarez faced a hearing,
28:20but he did not give a statement to the media.
28:23But according to the chair of the committee,
28:25what happened within the 19th Congress,
28:27so by jurisdiction, that went with the committee.
28:30What we dismissed earlier,
28:32is an aspect on with regards to continuous absences,
28:37which I have already mentioned to you.
28:40So we will proceed because our committee saw
28:45that there is a basis or reasons to believe
28:49that our committee should investigate.
28:51Before this, Alvarez insisted that the statement was not on the dishes
28:55because he mentioned the call for a peaceful way.
28:59For GMA Integrated News,
29:01Tina Panganiban Perez,
29:03reporting for 24 Hours.
29:07All set for the target of the medal,
29:10the first Filipino rower to qualify for the Olympics.
29:14Her response to the challenges of life
29:17and the hope of success in the performance of JP Soriano.
29:24Like the weight of this rowing scull boat,
29:27this is the boat that Jowani Delgaco uses
29:30as the first Filipino rowing qualifier in the Olympics.
29:35Here in Lamesa Dam,
29:36he trains everyday with the Philippine Rowing Team.
29:42With him is Coach Edgardo Mayrina,
29:45the first Filipino Olympic rower to compete in the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
29:51Their target for the Olympic medal is Jowani,
29:54the same as how he won bronze, silver and gold
29:57in the Southeast Asian Games 2019 and 2021.
30:03All of his medals almost did not make it.
30:06But when he made it to the top four
30:08in the World Rowing Asian and Oceanian Qualification Regatta,
30:12he also officially entered the Women's Single Sculls event
30:15in the rowing of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
30:19At the last 250 meters,
30:21I heard my other teammates screaming,
30:24they were really panting.
30:29I said, Pa, I'm in the Olympics.
30:31Then I started crying.
30:33That's just one of many achievements of Jowani
30:36that almost did not make it to the national team
30:40because of the previously high target for female rowers, 5'6".
30:46But Jowani convinced Coach Edgardo
30:48to allow him to try out.
30:51Almost every day, I really train myself.
30:54Even if I'm alone here.
30:55Then, after less than a year, I already won a medal.
30:59The lower one, who really has a willingness to train her heart,
31:05she can really achieve what she wants.
31:11But she continues to stretch her bones
31:13and strengthen her whole body.
31:19And I was able to prove that it's not a joke
31:22when I taught basic rowing to our two Olympian rowers.
31:28Especially when I was in the water.
31:37Rowing is very difficult.
31:39You really need skill and the right timing when you move your hands.
31:44You can really see the great sacrifice of our athletes
31:48to qualify for the Olympics.
31:50It's normal to not get what you want on your first attempt.
31:55It's like, Lord has a will for us.
31:59What is the time for us.
32:02For GMA Integrated News,
32:05JP Soriano,
32:06Tune in, 24 hours.
32:09Celebrations and other services,
32:12that's what some congressmen are encouraging
32:15to build community-based daycare centers for senior citizens
32:21in favor of the elderly.
32:23Sandra Aguinaldo has more.
32:28At the age of 75, Adelina helps her family's store
32:33to feed her children and grandchildren.
32:36Her daily work is good for her to stay strong.
32:42She also wants to do the laundry,
32:44but it's also expensive.
32:46On Saturdays and Sundays,
32:48I'm with my children.
32:50I walk to UP,
32:52but I only spend my time on our business.
32:56We don't have money for the laundry.
32:59Like Adelina,
33:02House Bill 10362,
33:13Under the bill of Rep. Milagros Aquino Magsaysay,
33:18the community-based daycare center
33:20can be visited by senior citizens
33:23for their entertainment and educational,
33:26health and socio-cultural programs and services.
33:29Some of the social services that a daycare center can provide
33:33are arts and crafts,
33:35games,
33:36dancing,
33:37storytelling,
33:38and field trips and outings.
33:40Some of the senior citizens we talked to are favorites.
33:44There are seniors who believe that
33:46if a daycare center is built for them,
33:50it will be good for them.
33:52But if there is a law that says
33:54that a senior citizen focal person
33:56in a barangay
33:58needs a budget for building a daycare center
34:02and additional staff,
34:04it should also be discussed
34:06what condition of the senior citizen
34:08can use the facility
34:10and who will be responsible for their safety.
34:15We need responders,
34:19medical staff,
34:21before they join the activities
34:23so that you can see their condition.
34:26According to the bill,
34:28the budget for the daycare center
34:30will come from the local government unit.
34:33Centers can also accept donations.
34:36Although it's a good idea,
34:38some of the senior citizens we talked to
34:40said that there are other more important needs.
34:44The pending bills for the benefits
34:49of senior citizens,
34:51like the NCEC,
34:54the Universal Pension that they are talking about,
34:57it's not there yet.
34:59I hope that it will be implemented.
35:01When you reach 80,000, you have 50,000.
35:04When you reach 90,000, additional 25,000.
35:07When you reach 125,000,
35:09which is just right,
35:11because the senior citizens
35:13can enjoy their 50,000.
35:16For GMA Integrated News,
35:18Sandra Aguinaldo,
35:20for 24 Hours.
35:23The highest-ranking media company
35:26is still online in the Philippines
35:27and throughout Southeast Asia,
35:29the GMA Network this April.
35:31Based on the latest Tubular Leaderboard
35:33worldwide rankings,
35:35in the media and entertainment category
35:37around the world,
35:38the GMA Network ranks 17th.
35:40Tubular is a company that analyzes content online
35:43as well as the interest and behavior of the audience
35:46on various social media platforms.
35:50It's a mess,
35:51but it can't be saved.
35:52And sometimes,
35:53there's even a scam.
35:55This is the story of many OFWs
35:57who are planning to attend a government seminar
35:59before they go abroad.
36:01I'm JP Soriano.
36:06Five years ago,
36:08Margarita worked hard to earn a living
36:10for 30,000 pesos a month
36:13as a healthcare worker in Saudi Arabia.
36:15It was very important in 2013,
36:18especially if it was saved in half a decade.
36:21But because of the breadwinner of the family
36:24and the escape of relatives,
36:26she just woke up one day
36:28when she didn't save anything.
36:30Your effort there,
36:32you didn't sleep,
36:33even if you're sick,
36:34you really need to work there.
36:37So when I woke up here in the Philippines,
36:41I said,
36:42I should have saved before.
36:44I won't give everything to them.
36:46She doesn't regret sleeping.
36:48She also invested in her earnings.
36:52It's a good thing that she's going to Canada
36:55as a caregiver.
36:57For OFWs like her,
36:59the strongest financial literacy program
37:02of the Department of Migrant Workers.
37:04It's part of the seminar
37:06that's required for all OFWs to leave.
37:10Before an OFW leaves to other countries,
37:13they need to attend the so-called PIDOS,
37:15or the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar.
37:18What they're taught in that training room
37:21is financial literacy,
37:23or how an OFW can save money
37:26to work abroad.
37:30In order for them to understand
37:32the importance of saving, investment,
37:34and how to avoid scams,
37:36some private banks,
37:38including the Philippine Stock Exchange, or PSE,
37:41signed an agreement for this collaboration,
37:44the Partnership in PSE.
37:46They can benefit from investing
37:48in companies in the Philippines.
37:50It's an additional help
37:52in improving the economy
37:54and creating jobs in the Philippines.
37:57So that there will be more Filipinos educated
38:00in terms of how the Philippine stock market works,
38:03high risk, low risk, high yield, low yield,
38:06how to prevent dubious stock offerings
38:10or scams, or what have you.
38:13And when they decide to return to the country,
38:16they will also be helped by the DMW
38:18who helped them enter the business.
38:21The first-time OFW, Joanna, is happy about this.
38:25Of course, to save money
38:27so that in the future,
38:29when I get home, I can start a business.
38:32For GMA Integrated News,
38:35JP Soriano,
38:36for 24 Hours.
