00:00Washington, D.C., the heart of American government and its feverish politics.
00:07But if you ask young people here about the election these days, you get a lot of this.
00:12Not a lot of us are voting right now, and it's so important to have, like, the youth
00:15voice while, like, to be represented in, like, voting.
00:20The two options aren't very timely.
00:23They don't really align with a lot of what our generation feels.
00:27Both candidates are geriatric, and they don't represent young people's values.
00:33And so I think it's hard to come to terms with which candidate to choose.
00:37The man who ends up in White House will on a large part depend on what happens here.
00:43Georgia is a crucial swing state, even more important for Devante Jennings to get out
00:48the vote.
00:49He is chairman of the Black Caucus of the Young Democrats of Georgia.
00:53His experience this time around is sobering.
00:56We're missing that juggernaut to get the young voters out.
01:02You know, we saw in 2008 when Barack Obama was running, everybody was so excited that
01:07people wanted to be a part of that process.
01:09There was something going on, and people were excited to actually be involved with it.
01:14This year, Devante's mission to get young people to vote may be tricky.
01:19A recent study showed only 53 percent of registered voters under 30 intend to vote.
01:27In the 2020 election, a record 55 percent of under 30s voted.
01:32The 2008 election brought out 51 percent of young voters.
01:37Even Devante admits that his party and President Joe Biden needs to do more to reach young
01:42voters.
01:43Trump has no policies tailor-made for young people.
01:47And I think Biden could be, and Biden's administration could be a lot better at messaging the packages
01:55and the agendas that they do have for young people.
02:00So I think people get it misconstrued that there is none.
02:04I think there's not one on one side.
02:06One side just has to package it up and message it better.
02:10This is Kennesaw State University.
02:12An unpartisan group is encouraging students to vote, even if candidates may not be appealing.
02:19Young people really care about the issues.
02:22You know, young people don't care about who's in office.
02:26They care that it's going to be somebody who actually cares about them.
02:31Fayette County, south of Atlanta, a Republican stronghold.
02:36They're determined to work with young people, even if they feel under pressure.
02:40A lot of people are afraid to express conservative views, a lot of the young people, because
02:44they're afraid they'll be canceled on social media.
02:48Back in Atlanta, Devante says he and the New Georgia Project volunteers, who are also encouraging
02:54people to vote, hear from young people that they care more for specific issues than candidates.
03:00The biggest things right now, they want the issue in Gaza to be resolved.
03:09Reproductive rights and cannabis.
03:11It's still a long way to go to the November election.
03:14Only then will these volunteers see if those issues will drive young people here in swing
03:19state Georgia to go and vote.
