00:00 We're here with Matt Stell, how's it going?
00:02 It's going great. ACMs, we're inside and it's nasty outside. It's going to be great.
00:07 It works out, right?
00:08 Absolutely.
00:09 So you performed last night, why did that feel like an appropriate kickoff for the ACMs for you?
00:13 Well, I'm just glad to be a part of it because there were so many people that I'm a fan of that played, you know, last night, or two nights ago, last night when we played.
00:22 You know, that's one of the biggest things about these awards weeks is getting, I'm a fan of country music first and foremost, so, you know, I get to play, yeah, but then I also get to see my friends, get to see people I admire, put on a great show like last night.
00:34 Scotty McCreary crushed it.
00:35 He did.
00:36 What do you love so much about the country community specifically? Why has that genre always been home for you?
00:41 Well, it's always been home for me. I come by it honest, you know. I'm from a little small southern town and that was just what it sounded like where I'm from.
00:50 You know, I'm like everybody, I grew up on a lot of different stuff, but the default setting was country music and what better place, country music, than here in Frisco, you know.
00:59 Absolutely. A lot of artists are now collaborating, exploring country music for the first time.
01:05 Would you ever go the other way? Is there a genre you grew up listening to that you would like to cover, work with an artist in that lane?
01:11 Oh, absolutely.
01:12 Man, I mean, Atlantis Morissette ever DMs me or Meg Thee Stallion ever hits me up. I'll be ready to rock, you know.
01:19 We can work on that for you, I think.
01:21 Absolutely. I slid into Meg Thee Stallion's DMs one time and I haven't heard back, but I hope she's doing good.
01:27 She just hasn't gotten to it yet, but she will.
01:29 Yeah, I told her, I said, "Hey, I'm trying to change your name to Meg Thee Stallion, so let me know." And I thought that was pretty slick, but it's cool.
01:36 But I actually, it's probably a good thing, because I've got a smoking hot date that's way better than me at everything back here.
01:42 Blessings, unanswered prayers.
01:44 Exactly. What are you most looking forward to tonight once you get into that room?
01:48 Reba's hosting, I think her 17th time hosting, which is unbelievable. I'm looking forward to a lot of the collabs.
01:55 Nate, Navarro, they're going to crush it. Saw Nate last night, so happy for that guy, man.
02:01 What an unbelievable talent, crushing it right now. I'm excited to get to my seat and be a fan of country music for a few hours.
02:07 Awesome. Well, I know you have a big summer ahead. You have a big night tonight.
02:10 Is there anything you want to tease about the summer for us to look forward to?
02:13 Absolutely, I do. 6/7, June 7th, my record, Born Lonely, comes out. And we're releasing it on the day of how tall that I am.
02:21 So, yeah, that way if anybody ever asks, I can just be like, "Yeah, 6/7, the day that Born Lonely comes out."
02:28 So funny, we're the same height. Can you believe it?
02:31 Yeah, no, I can't. But honestly, if you say it, it's got to be true.
02:35 Thank you for believing me.
