00:00 Filippo Ganna the fastest at the finishing line by a cavernous amount, well over a minute.
00:06 He dislodges his teammate Tobias Voss by one minute and 26 seconds over 32 kilometers.
00:14 And that was borderline insane from Ganna.
00:16 Queen stage into the Italian Alps. A mighty 222 kilometers with a finish
00:28 in Livigno over a total of five categorized climbs, three of which were cat one climbs.
00:35 A massive day in the King of the Mountains competition and a massive day ahead in the
00:39 general classification. Bright sunshine on the shores of Lake Garda as the race got underway
00:46 and an aggressive start as riders went off in search of a potential breakaway victory.
00:52 Simon Geschka being piloted to the front of the race in search of King of the Mountains points.
00:58 On the first climb then his most immediate rival Lilian Kamzjan was out sprinted to the
01:02 first climb at Lodrino by Lawrence Pithy of Groupama FTJ. As the groups got back together again
01:10 they approached the second climb of the day. Luke Plapp at the front of the race,
01:15 the Australian national champion attacking with Simon Geschka.
01:18 A little group getting away and Alpecin de Koenig with Simon Geschka in the blue jersey
01:25 trying to knit it all back together again as Geschka in the company of Christian Scaroni
01:33 went over the top of the collie Sanzino. Scaroni getting maximum 18 points.
01:37 They headed then down onto a descent with six riders off the front
01:44 and meanwhile back in the peloton UAE Team Emirates taking it up. The groups came back
01:50 together again and at one point there were over 40 riders at the front. Polti Kometa riding
01:55 very aggressively but still these six riders including Harrison Wood of Cofidis and two
02:02 riders from Astana including Davide Ballarini were off the front as they went through the
02:06 first bonus sprint at Malono. After that then it was the mighty Passo del Mortirolo, the first of
02:14 the Cat 1 climbs and bit by bit the riders at the front of the race fell away. Meanwhile pressure
02:19 was being exerted behind by UAE Team Emirates. At the front of the race then three Italian riders
02:25 were joined by Nicola Conci as they headed towards the top of the climb but it was Astana's
02:29 Christian Scaroni who picked up 40 more king of the mountains points and went off in pursuit of
02:34 second place in that competition. Diving down then the second long descent of the day the groups came
02:40 back together again on the flat approach to the next bonus sprint and the intergiro.
02:46 They were riding hard behind though and the big breakaway group splintered and reformed
02:54 a steep approach to the bonus sprint. It was Visma Lisa Bike's Attila Valta who went over the
03:01 sprint in first place and after that the intergiro was taken by Porticometo's Davide Picconzoli.
03:06 Then they approached the last two categorized climbs and that was where Nairo Quintana attacked
03:12 and went clear. A reaction then and the big expected move from the Maglia Rosa. Here we go!
03:18 He's off again the history maker off in pursuit of the legend this time of Eddie Merckx who won
03:24 on this mountain in 1972 in the Maglia Rosa and that's the difference between Pogacar and
03:28 everybody else in this bike race. Quintana went over the penultimate climb in first place.
03:33 The Movistar Man, the winner of the Giro d'Italia in 2014 was being pursued though as behind Tadej
03:41 Pogacar was picking off the riders bit by bit. Eventually on the final climb to the finish in
03:47 Lovigno, Tadej Pogacar got on terms with Nairo Quintana and then dropped him with two kilometers to go.
03:54 This Giro d'Italia is so emphatically his that it's almost ridiculous. Tadej Pogacar, the destroyer
04:02 of dreams, the writer of history and the winner at will. Another extraordinary chapter in this
04:09 amazing career unfolds before our very eyes at altitude in the snow of the Giro d'Italia.
04:16 Pogacar is incomparable!
04:43 He takes another stage victory. Win number four for Pogacar at the 2024 Giro. Quintana in second
04:50 place, Steinhauser in third but this man's advantage on GC is now huge. Six minutes and 41 seconds to
04:57 Geraint Thomas in second place. Eventually Jonathan Milan came to the line still with a firm grip on
05:03 the Maglia Ciclamino. Pogacar extended his lead in the King of the Mountains competition
05:12 but in the white jersey standings Antonio Tiberi lost a lot of his time today to Tiemann-Arendsman.
05:18 He's only got a few seconds to defend as the third week of the Giro looms large.
05:29 you
