00:00 Alright folks here we are coming to you live from 2024 KTM DukeFest in the
00:07 island territory the US island territory of Puerto Rico. So 2024 marks 30 years of
00:17 KTM's Duke naked bike manufacturing. For 30 years they've been manufacturing
00:23 these motorcycles in Austria for all of us across the world to ride and Evan
00:29 Motors this is the Puerto Rican dealership for KTM motorcycles on this
00:36 island and as you can see we have a lot of KTM riders there's probably about 40
00:42 50 KTM bikes up there and you wouldn't believe how many of these bikes have
00:46 stretched swing arms. People in Puerto Rico love their KTM bikes. We're here
00:51 today to go on a really awesome group ride we're gonna tour the island see
00:56 some stuff and feel what it's like to be a part of KTM's Duke community let's go
01:02 for a ride. So we're here for KTM DukeFest we're operating our 2024 KTM
01:10 390 Duke which is an updated model for the 2024 year. It's pretty crazy but if
01:19 you didn't know here in Puerto Rico KTM 390 Dukes are one of the most popular
01:26 street bikes on this island. How crazy is that? Look at all the people this is
01:34 crazy look at everyone wild. Let's turn on our
01:41 Insta 360 camera here so we can see what it's like to ride in 360 with everyone.
01:51 This is so sick look at this some guy was doing a wheelie Wow. Now it's worth
01:59 mentioning that we're riding our KTM 390 Duke and we're wearing our
02:06 motorcycling wear which includes motorcycling gloves, a motorcycling jacket,
02:13 motorcycling jeans, the Revit piston jeans to be exact and our trusty TCX
02:20 road 4 vintage shoe. Now while other people choose not to wear motorcycle
02:26 gear whenever we operate any power sports vehicle we're all gear all the
02:31 time that's how we roll. Safety and rule following is paramount here for us so
02:38 that is why we always don all the gear but if you don't want to don the gear
02:44 you don't have to. Look we even have UTV guys look at this guy in his street can
02:50 am this is awesome. Alright folks we've this roads been closed for KTM Duke
02:56 Fest so that's the reason why we're allowed to go through the red lights if
03:02 applicable. Once again this road has been closed to KTM Duke Fest and
03:08 that is the deal. Look at this street car I love it.
03:13 Apparently here in Puerto Rico you can make your street car legal how cool is
03:19 this. Alright folks we're gonna ride a little bit and we'll check in with you
03:22 in a little bit here. Here we are on the freeway look at all the KTM riders front
03:29 and back this is crazy there's got to be at least four to five hundred motorcycle
03:36 riders on this tour. Of course although a lot of us are riding KTM street bikes
03:45 2024 Duke Fest in Puerto Rico is open to all brands and all makes and models. Look
03:52 at that stretch KTM bike the people of Puerto Rico love their stretched Dukes.
03:59 Look at that duo right here. Now this 2024 390 Duke this bike has been
04:07 overhauled for the 2024 model year it retails for $5,900. Of course we're in
04:14 Puerto Rico it's the US territory so the official language is English and the
04:19 official currency is US dollars. They also like miles per hour but they like
04:27 to use liters in terms of volume. Speaking of volume this fuel tank
04:32 carries 15 liters of gas which is roughly 4 US gallons. It's pretty crazy
04:40 because here in the island of Puerto Rico the fuel prices are pretty
04:45 reasonable for an island country. I think gas is right around 3.80 high
04:51 threes low fours for a gallon of gas which is better than the Golden State
04:57 for example. Now here we are we're on this ride we are going across to the
05:02 city of Ponce P-O-N-C-E that's where we're heading. That is on the opposite side of
05:10 the island right now we are in San Juan Puerto Rico which is the capital of this
05:16 US territory. So we're gonna log some miles we're gonna hang out with our
05:22 fellow Duke riders and see what's up. Oh I think that guy needs a tune
05:30 and we'll check in with you folks a little bit see there's another stretched
05:33 1290 Super Duke this time. Even the ladies are getting in on the action with
05:39 her RC 390 how neat is that. Holy cow folks I think I said 400 people there's
05:46 more like 500 look at the ocean of motorcyclists this is awesome
05:52 Puerto Rican people know how to party on power sports vehicles. Alright folks
05:59 we're back so here at KTM Duke Fest it's really crazy to see the Puerto Rican
06:06 custom motorcycle culture so obviously in other parts of the United States and
06:11 other parts of the world power sports customers like to tweak their rides and
06:17 customize their machines to fit their needs. Now here in Puerto Rico I can't
06:23 believe how many stretched and lowered Duke naked bikes we've seen today it's
06:29 really crazy everyone from 390 Duke which is the entry-level model we're
06:34 riding to the midsize the 798 90 to the 1290 Duke a lot of stretched and lowered
06:41 KTM Duke motorcycles you know you go to other motorcycle gatherings like
06:47 Daytona Bike Week and you see a lot of stretched and lowered Suzuki Hayabusa's
06:51 but here in the island of Puerto Rico they love their KTM Dukes I can't
06:56 believe how many 390 Dukes I've seen it's a very very popular motorcycle on
07:03 this island you have to remember that the island of Puerto Rico isn't it's not
07:07 the biggest land area in terms of surface area so having a smaller
07:12 motorcycle it's kind of nice and of course these cities are they're pretty
07:18 densely packed the roads are narrow and it's nice having a real small compact
07:23 street bike like this 340 some pound 390 Duke. Sitting on this motorcycle I'm six
07:30 foot tall I weigh right around 205 pounds I'm a big heavy fella well I fit
07:36 on this motorcycle pretty well for sure you know that this is a small street
07:41 bike some of the other 400cc bikes in the class their ergonomics aren't so
07:49 so compact this motorcycle is definitely set up for a person of smaller stature
07:55 yes we're six foot tall 205 pounds yes we can fit on this motorcycle with an
08:00 acceptable degree of comfort but the seat is really short front to back the
08:06 the handlebar is is low and the offset is really rearward swept this is a
08:12 motorcycle for all of you smaller folks out there. Here on the island of Puerto
08:16 Rico generally a lot of the men here are a little bit shorter in terms of their
08:22 height that are a little bit smaller so it's no wonder that the 390 Duke is so
08:26 popular here it really caters to smaller riders there's another Can-Am street car
08:32 I love those things like they're so neat you can license those vehicles here on
08:37 the island of Puerto Rico. Back to ergonomics this bike favors smaller
08:43 riders of course we love how light this thing is right around 340 pounds with a
08:49 full four gallons of fuel this motorcycle is super nimble it's really
08:53 good for tackling those congested and narrow back streets that like we
08:59 encounter here in Puerto Rico. Sorry folks it's starting to rain so I had to
09:04 zip up my jacket to max zip style so I can prevent myself from getting wet. Back
09:10 to the engine there's definitely quite a bit of vibration you can feel it through
09:14 the seat the handlebar and the foot controls so it would be nice if KTM
09:20 were able to dial out some of that vibration because it is a little bit
09:24 off-putting. This engine also it throws off quite a bit of heat onto the riders
09:31 legs and feet which is kind of crazy because it's only a single
09:37 cylinder engine it is water-cooled so you think just because of if it's smaller
09:42 capacity and it's more limited power you'd think maybe it wouldn't throw off
09:46 so much heat onto the rider but it sure does so quite a bit of heat emitted onto
09:53 the riders legs and feet keep that in mind when you're riding this bike. Now a
10:02 cable actuated clutch augments the six-speed transmission the clutch has
10:08 has nice feel nice feel it's really light so if you're a person who doesn't
10:15 have a He-Man sized left forearm you'll still be able to actuate this clutch
10:21 really easily. There is an adjustment knob at the top so you can adjust the
10:26 clutch tension and get the engagement point where you like it. This motorcycle
10:33 rides on a WP inverted fork with a WP shock that's mounted off set to center
10:44 on the rear of the motorcycle it mounts directly between the back of the frame
10:49 and the aluminum swing arm it does not operate through a linkage. The suspension
10:56 offers damping adjustment front and aft up front we have rebound damping
11:04 adjustment which is offered atop the right fork leg with compression damping
11:10 adjustment adjustable atop the left fork leg so the right fork handles rebound
11:17 damping duties while the left fork handles compression damping duties.
11:21 Preload is non adjustable on the fork so your spring preload spring spring rate
11:28 is your spring rate. Out back the shock absorber has spring preload
11:35 adjustability so you can add tension or reduce tension based on rider preference
11:41 or how much weight you're carrying on the vehicle. We also have rebound damping
11:47 adjustment inside the shock. The shock itself is pretty beefy looking it looks
11:54 pretty beefy for an entry-level naked bike which is pretty nice to see. Now the
12:02 damping response of this bike we haven't really ridden anywhere where we're
12:05 really wailing in the corners but so far the damping response seems really
12:10 accurate. This motorcycle offers nearly six inches of travel front and rear 5.9
12:18 inches to be exact and this motorcycle it definitely goes over bumps well but
12:24 you definitely feel the big jolts through the chassis whereas other bikes
12:30 that we've ridden naked bikes are a little bit more comfortable when you're
12:34 riding over the rough stuff you definitely feel big jolts and impacts on
12:39 this motorcycle. Still it is nice to be able to adjust the damping response
12:48 based on where you like to ride. It's also cool that KTM uses its handy
12:55 tool-less style adjusters atop each fork leg so you can just turn the red knob
13:03 for rebound on the right to the right for more rebound and to the left for
13:08 less. Same with the white compression knob you just turn that with your finger
13:12 you don't need to use any screwdrivers which is pretty neat. That guy was pumped
13:20 on us. Now in terms of braking this motorcycle has disc brakes front
13:28 and rear. We have a single radial mounted twin piston disc brake up front with a
13:36 rear disc brake out back which operates through ABS. The ABS mode you can adjust
13:46 via this nice looking color TFT dash display. You have to be at a standstill
13:54 to make that adjustment however. We just took a quick break to have some pizza at
14:00 this nice little pizzeria. We had some pizzeria and a couple sodas and waters
14:05 it was really awesome talking to everyone. Everyone loves their KTM Duke
14:08 motorcycles because they love the way they look. They have really aggressive
14:13 styling and they have that punchy engine character which is a reason why people
14:19 in Puerto Rico like these motorcycles so much. Well folks that concludes our 2024
14:25 Duke Fest group ride here in Puerto Rico. That was crazy. I never realized that
14:33 Puerto Rican people love their motorcycles and love their Duke
14:37 motorcycles so much. It's pretty wild. Now we're gonna hit the road and explore
14:44 some other stuff around the island. As usual make sure to surf on over to our
14:50 website if you want to read about this trip and give this video a thumbs up if
14:54 you liked it. Thumbs it down if you don't. We'll see you next episode folks. Thanks
14:58 for riding with us.
