00:00How you doing guys? Like a statue poised on the grounds of the grammar school. Good luck,
00:09keep on running. What's the challenge you're up to then? Who's going to tell me about what
00:12you're doing? Go on, go on bud.
00:16180 miles in 24 hours sir.
00:18How many miles?
00:19180 miles.
00:20180 miles? That's crazy. And it's all part of the raising money for BEAT?
00:26Yes sir.
00:27Cool. So how long have you been training for, for this thing guys?
00:3116 weeks.
00:3216 weeks? Yeah. So what's the furthest distance you've run at the minute at this stage in
00:37one go?
00:3810k.
00:3910k? That's a fair play. And how long do you have to do the challenge then, overall?
00:43The aim is 24 hours.
00:4624 hours? So in 24 hours you'll be doing how many miles in total?
00:50117.
00:51And where does it, is it Cumbria? Where's it starting from?
00:54It starts in Sudbees and then it finishes at Robin Hoods Bay.
00:57Robin Hoods Bay? You've been there before?
00:59No.
01:00It's lovely, really nice. Nice pub, but perhaps you're a bit young for that. It's a nice pub
01:03on the seafront. And you're feeling like you're going to do it? You're feeling confident about
01:07it?
01:08Yes sir.
01:09Yeah? Come on, yes. And who else wants to say a bit? Come on, let's get you guys.
01:14We're raising money for them, but you can't even get to 7,000. We're looking for more.
01:19Yeah, let's get that in. So we're raising money for BEAT and where are you at with your
01:22fundraising at the minute?
01:23I think we're almost at 7,000.
01:25Wow, so BEAT's an eating disorder charity. And can people still donate?
01:30Yeah, on the Just Giving page.
01:32Yeah? What do they search for then?
01:35I think the best thing to search for is probably just WGS Coast to Coast 2024.
01:40Coast to Coast 2024. Cool. And this event's organised by your school, isn't it? I believe
01:45it's been going for a few years, is that right? 20 something years?
01:49It's been 26 years.
01:5026 years?
01:51Yeah.
01:52So I guess is there a bit of an internal school challenge where like each year tries to beat
01:56the time of the last one? Or have I just put that in your minds now?
02:01Right, well good luck on the challenge guys. Give us a cheer. One, two, three.
02:04Hey!
02:06So how you doing guys? This is some of the staff here from the school. Who've we got?
02:09Go on madam, what's your name?
02:10I'm Caroline Harris.
02:11And?
02:12Nick Anderson on the head.
02:13And?
02:14Tony French.
02:15And how you feeling about the challenge then?
02:16Oh, looking forward to it. It's always a great event.
02:19Yeah.
02:20The students have been running this now for 26 years. It's always Year 10 students.
02:24Yeah.
02:25And they run 170 miles from St B's across to Robin Hood's Bay as a tag team in 24 hours.
02:31Fantastic. So what was the, is it always a different charity or the same charity? How does it work?
02:36The students choose the charity. So usually it's a charity that's quite close to someone
02:42personally in the team, which obviously just gives a great focus for the fundraising efforts.
02:47Yeah. And you guys running it as well or are you just supervising?
02:51Supervising. I'm going along as head to support. I've been delighted in recent years my two daughters have done it.
02:58It's an absolutely fantastic event. It's a great team behind us and a great team of parents who support
03:04and really enjoy the camaraderie, the community feel when we're going across the country. It's absolutely brilliant.
03:09And what an experience to give the children. They're never going to forget it, are they?
03:13It's a fantastic experience to take out after they leave the school and tell people about.
03:18And especially for the first CV to say they've accomplished this going forward.
03:22Yeah.
03:23It's a great event for them. They learn a lot from it.
03:26So you'll be driving out shortly and then what, you're stopping digs tonight and then challenge tomorrow?
03:31Yeah. So we did, the start of the challenge is we dip a school tie in the sea at St B's
03:37and then the tie is the baton that gets passed from student to student.
03:42We all run a half hour stint and then they swap over and pass over the tie
03:46and it completes when they dip the tie in the sea at Robin Hood's Bay.
03:49That's a nice little touch. Do they all go for a dip by the time we get to Robin Hood's Bay?
03:54I should imagine they're all ready for a little tie.
03:56We're all ready for breakfast.
03:57Breakfast by then. But no, I think after about a couple of hours afterwards they actually realise what they've accomplished.
04:03Yeah.
04:04And they wish they'd, they think it's great.
04:06Well let me word it differently to what I said to the kids.
04:09There's a nice little place for refreshments in Robin Hood's Bay right by the sea.
04:13Perhaps one for the staff that one, a well earned drink.
04:16Well good luck with the challenge guys.
04:18Thank you very much.
