Rain will accompany colder-than-usual temperatures in the Northeast for the final days of May.

00:00 It's been interesting. We've been talking about how sometimes thunderstorms are driven by the big time heat and humidity near the ground and marginally cooler air upstairs.
00:07 In this case, it's not all that humid near the ground, not all that hot, but it is much colder upstairs and that's driving the bus here with our Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania thunderstorms.
00:16 That's right. Up there at around 5,000 feet, definitely cooler and even higher up than that. Temperatures here for tonight themselves will be dropping into the 50s.
00:23 Still a couple of showers dropping their way down here in the short term later on tonight. We'll calm things down for the most part and dry along Interstate 95, but not the cases we had into Wednesday.
00:33 More storms break out. Similar flavor though. It's not going to be terribly humid or hot near the ground. You're not going to say this is a classic summer thunderstorm setup, but there will be storms that break out because of the cooler air upstairs.
00:45 That's right. As we work our way here through Wednesday night into Thursday, we'll continue to see this pocket of chill lingering where temperatures will be going 5 to even 15 degrees below the historical average. Humidity stays on the low side as well.
00:58 It'll be a little more comfortable. Once we get most of the storms out of here Thursday, it's going to be a nice little payoff for a lot of communities.
01:04 We would love to see that in southwest Florida. Along the Gulf Coast, it's been steamy and Tampa is going to make a run near a record high tomorrow. Record to beat 95, 96 in some of these communities. We're going to be up above that most likely by about 2 or 3 degrees.
