00:23 Hi, it's Olivia Preston here with Luton News at the Big Weekend.
00:27 [Music]
00:29 On Friday the sun was out as thousands of people made their way up Farley Hill to Stockwood
00:34 Park for the Big Weekend.
00:36 [Music]
00:46 Families young and old were out in full force for the first day of the biggest music event
00:50 in the town in recent memory.
00:52 [Music]
01:17 There were merch stores, bars, food trucks, a ferris wheel and even a tar dance.
01:23 [Music]
01:44 Ricky Hill, Rudimental, Chase & Status, Eric Prince and Ella Henderson kicked off the three
01:50 day festival with a bang.
01:51 [Music]
02:02 The sun was still shining on the second day and the feel good anthems were turned up loud
02:07 with Thames, Cat Burns, H and Charli XCX rocking out.
02:12 [Music]
02:31 But most people were waiting to see six time Brit Award winner, Ray perform.
02:35 [Music]
02:37 Radio Happy Weekend!
02:39 [Cheering]
02:41 How you doing? Are you ready to have a good time?
02:43 [Music]
02:49 On Sunday I sat down with DJs Ricky, Melvin and Charli, two of whom met in Luton.
02:56 It's kind of surreal because obviously like this is where Ricky discovered me, Melvin Odu,
03:02 and now he can't get rid of me.
03:04 And it's just been so nice because we did a DJ hunt earlier on this week and I was like
03:08 by the university so some of the lecturers came out and it's just such a buzz.
03:12 Everyone's just so excited that Radio One's big weekend is here so it's just an honour
03:16 that we could come back and celebrate in such a way.
03:20 I also spoke with Sharna Leary who explained how she'd enjoyed being in the town for the festival.
03:26 Really, really enjoyed it. I feel like everyone has been so hot on it.
03:32 Everyone's here for a good time, right?
03:34 It's hard to imagine that different crowds bring different energy but obviously it depends on the artists.
03:39 I think there's such a good roster this year and for it to happen here in Luton,
03:44 I always really appreciated that Radio One goes to places where traditionally you wouldn't see these Luton artists.
03:49 A highlight for me was to see Olivia Deen perform.
03:52 [Music]
04:03 The rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits as it poured during Sabrina Carpenter's and London Grammar's sets.
04:09 [Music]
04:16 Thankfully it stayed dried for the biggest act of the whole event.
04:20 30,000 people singing in unison as Coldplay performed their biggest hits to end the big weekend.
04:26 [Music]
04:36 It was fantastic to see so many people from Luton having a wonderful time at such a huge event in the town.
