00:08 Hi, I'm Chet Mangubat.
00:10 I'm 57 years old, and I'm bank retired.
00:12 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:18 Ever since I was younger, I was drawn into this type of design.
00:21 It's American Southern living.
00:23 For me, it's homey.
00:25 It's stylish.
00:26 It's creative.
00:27 It's organized and not complicated.
00:29 And it's very approachable, and it's cozy.
00:31 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:41 We have an outdoor space that is almost 1,000 square meters
00:44 that we use for activities and functionalities,
00:47 like this fire pit and gazebo that we truly
00:50 enjoy, especially during the bare months,
00:52 when it's really cold here in Silang.
00:54 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:57 To break the white-colored theme of the whole house,
00:59 we have this stone wall cladding that gives an earthly accent
01:03 to the exterior.
01:04 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:12 As a plant lover, I made sure that we
01:15 have enough space for my mini garden and greenhouse.
01:18 We like inviting friends and relatives over.
01:21 So to accommodate, we have a sufficient parking space
01:24 for them.
01:25 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:28 Since this is a one-story house, we
01:31 thought of having an open space concept to make it simpler,
01:35 to maximize the space.
01:36 And we also want to promote family banding.
01:38 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:43 So we have two rooms here.
01:44 We have the guest room and the main bedroom.
01:46 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:01 In 2020, at the height of the pandemic,
02:04 my husband's employer offered an early retirement plan,
02:08 which seldom happens.
02:10 So we discussed it very carefully.
02:13 And we agreed that we wanted to enjoy our retirement
02:16 while we can.
02:17 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:22 My favorite part of the house is the porch,
02:24 because this is where I usually do my meditation in the morning
02:28 or when I want to slow down, drink coffee or tea,
02:31 or maybe read my favorite book, and just
02:34 watch the trees swinging and the sound of the birds,
02:38 because this is where I relax.
02:40 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:49 I also want to share some details
02:51 that we have here in our home, like the shiplap walls, which
02:54 I am so obsessed about.
02:58 These sliding barn doors with black metal tracking
03:01 and French windows with plant boxes
03:03 completes the overall farmhouse vibe.
03:06 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:09 My husband is really obsessed with bricks.
03:12 That is why he uses it as a wall accent,
03:15 carrying that pattern up to the backsplash.
03:17 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:22 We also have this ottoman that serves
03:25 as an extra sitting and footrest,
03:27 or even as extra storage.
03:28 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:31 I named the place the Porch Farm and House
03:33 because the porch is the main highlight,
03:37 and that makes the house stand out from the rest.
03:39 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:42 Going to the main bedroom, it was really non-negotiable to me
03:46 that there is a dedicated space for my clothes
03:49 and other personal stuff, because I
03:51 believe that every wife deserves a walk-in closet.
03:54 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:57 One unique thing about the main bedroom
03:59 is we have a balcony or veranda for our morning and afternoon
04:02 coffee.
04:03 This also acts as an additional dining space
04:05 if you want a change of scene while eating.
04:07 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:15 During the construction of the house, one of the struggles
04:19 was the driveway.
04:20 Since the house was built on the highest point of the property,
04:23 we need to put in tracks of gravel and sand
04:26 so that the driveway can come into level with the house.
04:29 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:35 What I learned in the process of building this Porch Farm
04:38 and House, well, this may sound cliche,
04:42 but you might have heard of this.
04:45 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:50 This is the fruit and labor of our 34 years
04:54 of hard work and sacrifices.
04:56 [MUSIC PLAYING]
05:05 We chose to have our groundbreaking
05:08 on December 8 of 2021, the feast day of the Immaculate
05:11 Conception, because we want the day to be significant.
05:15 And of course, we want our home to be blessed.
05:18 And from that day on, the construction took place already
05:22 and ended on May 2022.
05:24 [MUSIC PLAYING]
05:29 This house was built by our ever reliable and trusted
05:33 architects/contractor, a husband and wife tandem,
05:37 architects Gerald and Joan Castillo of HG&J Architects
05:41 and Design from Marikina.
05:43 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
05:48 [MUSIC PLAYING]
05:58 About our future plans, actually, we
06:01 want to retire here, but not necessarily giving up
06:05 our house in Imus.
06:06 We do not want to speak too soon,
06:08 but right now, there are no plans
06:10 of having it leased or making it available on Airbnb,
06:14 because you know, this is something personal to us.
06:17 [MUSIC PLAYING]
06:27 So this is it.
06:29 This is our gift, our long-dreamed farmhouse.
06:32 I had a vision of this, but I didn't
06:35 expect this will come sooner.
06:37 Really, God is good.
06:39 That's why my crisis happened, because he has better plans
06:42 for me and for us.
06:44 [MUSIC PLAYING]
