00:00 1,400,000 children in Italy are affected by situations related to hygiene poverty,
00:11 that is, the impossibility of being able to afford the costs related to personal hygiene and their own clothing.
00:18 A condition that can create discrimination, marginalization and social immobility.
00:23 This was discussed at the press conference "Beyond the Surface, Analysis and Proposals to Combat Hygiene Poverty",
00:30 organized in Milan by Dixan, a historic brand of the German multinational Enkel and the humanitarian organization Cesby.
00:37 As Dixan, we deal with cleanliness in the most functional way, offering clean heads and mouths.
00:46 We felt the need to think more broadly about the possibility of access to hygiene by everyone.
00:56 We met with Cesby and it was clear that the issue of hygiene poverty is urgent.
01:04 We decided to support them with this social responsibility project
01:10 to offer hygiene care to the children of the "Casa del Sorriso", more than 1,000 children in Italy,
01:16 and also to educational support so that they can emerge from this situation.
01:22 Cesby operates in the Italian territory through the structures of the "Casa del Sorriso",
01:27 focusing on the issue of abuse and neglect, understood as "incuria".
01:32 We try to work with families to support them in their educational path,
01:40 but we also work with young people, with girls, within the group of peers,
01:45 precisely to avoid stigma regarding this issue and to build communities that are as solidary as possible
01:55 among them and to avoid phenomena such as bullying.
01:59 IPSOS has conducted a research on the feeling of Italians regarding hygiene poverty
02:06 and the country's economic future.
02:08 From the data collected during the conference,
02:12 it emerges that in Lombardy only 5% know the issue very well.
02:17 As the Lombardy region, we are on the side of active policies in support of hygiene poverty,
02:23 a central theme of the regional but also national agenda, on which we need to overcome the stigma.
02:30 There are many people who today have this hygiene poverty, often in the family,
02:36 often at the age of minors, of small children who do not have access to basic elements of care and hygiene.
02:45 So we have launched an even more strengthened collaboration in this press conference
02:50 of co-design, public-private and third sector.
