John Ross talks about returning to NFL after trying out for Eagles

00:00 I think I was just at a point in my life where I had a lot going on.

00:03 But literally the day I retired, I knew it was a mistake.

00:07 But I think when you go through so much in life and you can only control so much,

00:12 you get to a place mentally and physically, from what I've been dealing with and

00:17 what I've dealt with, it was tough.

00:19 But in my heart, I know who I am.

00:23 I immediately started to coach, I coached my son.

00:26 So I was always in it and I knew it was a mistake.

00:30 But where I am now, I feel I'm in a much better place mentally, physically, and

00:34 even spiritually.

00:35 So I'm actually thankful it happened.

00:37 >> John, I think it might be a little humbling maybe to have to come to a tryout

00:41 situation and show what you can do.

00:43 I mean, how did you approach your first chance here to make it back into

00:47 the league?

00:48 >> We would get it like this.

00:49 Well, in my situation, I was a top ten draft pick and

00:53 we all talk about it all the time.

00:55 If we ever get to the point where we have to try out, we'll probably be done.

00:58 But then you get to that point and you're like, you don't have no other choice.

01:01 And when I got the opportunity, I was probably the happiest person on earth.

01:07 Me and my son, just sitting there being, I was just grateful and thankful.

01:12 And when I got here, I was just, I was happy to be here.

01:16 So it wasn't more so, it's a rookie camp, I was looking at it this way.

01:20 It was an opportunity again for me to play football again.

01:24 So that's what I see.

01:24 And it could have been, it could have been a Eagles Canadian tryout.

01:29 I would have been there, happy and willing and able.
