Sheffield Friends of the Earth held a unique demonstration at the River Don to highlight the issue of sewage being discharges into seas and rivers.
Transcript
00:00 Members of Sheffield Friends of the Earth have come along to the River Don in Sheffield today to highlight sewage pollution in our rivers.
00:07 Last year, Yorkshire Water released more than half a million hours of sewage into Yorkshire's rivers.
00:14 And in Sheffield rivers, they released just under 30,000 hours of sewage.
00:21 We think this is disgusting.
00:23 We should be able to walk along our rivers and enjoy the wildlife, seeing the fish, the herons, the kingfishers and otters, rather than seeing turds, wet wipes and plastic.
00:35 So to help Yorkshire Water, we've brought our squad of turdbusters along to clean up the rivers for them.
00:41 To sort out this mess, Friends of the Earth is proposing a new law called the Environmental Rights Act. It will force the water companies to clean up our rivers and it will give us the right to a clean and healthy environment.
00:55 You can find out more about our campaign on our website at sheffieldfoe.co.uk
