The son of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has claimed trial at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur to a bribery charge amounting to RM100,000.

Muhammad Faisal Hamzah, 40, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out before Sessions Court judge Rozina Ayob on Wednesday (June 5).

00:20According to the charge sheet, Mohammad Faisal allegedly accepted a 100,000 ringgit bribe
00:26from Izmir Abdul Hamid as an inducement for high-tech Padu Berhad to appoint Rimba Merpati
00:31Sandirian Berhad and Shariqat Permai Solutions as marketing consultants due to his influence.
00:38The companies received a commission of 700,000 ringgit after high-tech Padu Berhad was awarded
00:43a 33 million ringgit tender by the Companies Commission of Malaysia for the supply, rental,
00:50implementation, training, support and maintenance of security infrastructure.
00:55The offence was purportedly committed at an office in Publica Shopping Gallery in
00:59March 2018.
01:01Mohammad Faisal is charged under Section 16A.A of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission
01:07MACC Act 2009, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and a fine of no
01:15less than five times the amount of gratification or 10,000 ringgit, whichever is higher if
01:20convicted.
01:22Deputy Public Prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumat proposed bail at 30,000 ringgit with one surety,
01:28requesting additional conditions that the accused surrender his passport, report to
01:33the MACC office monthly starting in July, and refrain from contacting prosecution witnesses.
01:39Mohammad Faisal's lawyer, Ravinder Singh Dhaliwal, requested a lower bail amount of
01:4425,000 ringgit, noting that his client needed to travel to Thailand monthly for the process
01:50of opening a hostel.
01:52Judge Rozina fixed bail at 25,000 ringgit in one surety and allowed the additional conditions.
