00:00Hello, I'm James Fiberovich, and happy National Fish and Chip Day.
00:04It's a day where people go out and they enjoy their favourite salted, vinegared and battered snack.
00:09What we're doing is we're out in Wolverhampton to speak to people, ask them about it and get them to do a taste test
00:14between regular chips, you know, everyday common garden chips, and your battered variety.
00:20I'm not going to say where these are from for the secrecy of where I bought them from.
00:24We just want to see what people think. Do they prefer battered and orange, or plain? Let's go and see.
00:29What is it about the battered chips that makes them better?
00:32I don't really like plain food, so it's just a bit more flavour.
00:36It's got more character to it as well.
00:38Yeah.
00:39Plus, they're also quite popular within the region as well, so it's something that's quite...
00:44It's sort of unique to the black country, isn't it?
00:46Yeah, definitely.
00:51The best bit is, it costs absolutely nothing, so...
00:54Normal one first, so what do you think of that?
00:57It's average.
00:58Average, and then battered one?
01:03Yeah, the battered ones are better.
01:05What is it about that one that makes it better? Is it just the flavour of it?
01:07Yeah, it has more flavour, I like. Yeah, it has more flavour.
01:11I like grilled.
01:15I like all chips, but most of them, I like the orange chips.
01:19It's a good celebration of the black country though, isn't it?
01:21Oh yes, yeah, for sure.
01:23Yeah!
01:25We're asking people whether they prefer plain chips or battered chips.
01:29We're doing a taste test.
01:30I'm on a diet all day long.
01:31You'd be a perfect person to speak to then.
01:33Definitely battered.
01:34Alright, in which case, would you like to have one?
01:35I'm okay. Milkshake, sorry.
01:37One's not going to hurt, come on.
01:38Come on.
01:39I'm pushing my luck now, they've got salt and vinegar on as well.
01:41Yeah.
01:42They're fussy, isn't it?
01:43And they're cold.
01:45They're way better than them though.
01:47Alright, what is it about these that you prefer compared to these?
01:50The traditional side of it, the old.
01:53They've got the sort of glow of it, the fact that they're nice.
01:56Yeah, yeah, definitely, yeah.
01:57They're obviously kind of healthy as well, but where I live, there isn't any chip shops like that.
02:01But I do look for them when I'm out and about.
02:03I do look for that kind of chip shop.
02:05I'm assuming that when you see one, your eyes light up and you go, oh, brilliant.
02:09Definitely, yeah.
02:10You don't see them around too much anymore.
02:11They're more like the traditional old school chip shops, if you know what I mean,
02:14as opposed to the more modern ones where you can get any old food in them these days
02:18where they sell them kind of chips, you get the traditional chip shop food in there.
02:25Well, the public have spoken.
02:26We've shown them the regular chips and the battered chips,
02:29and the all-round view was they prefer these, the battered chips.
02:33And I've got to say, I do kind of agree myself.
02:35These are wonderful, crispy, and really nice chips.
02:40So, happy Fish and Chip Day.
02:42Whichever you prefer, go and enjoy.
02:44If you like these, go for it.
02:45If you like the regular ones, go for it.
02:46But otherwise, just enjoy your chips.
