In the spirit of celebrating fish and chips, I'm here on the streets of Birmingham to ask locals about their go-to orders at their favourite fish and chip shops. From the classic cod and chips to more unique choices, here's what they recommend and where they prefer to dine.

00:00I don't use fish and chip shops.
00:03Could you tell me why you don't use fish and chip shops?
00:06I can do it cheaper and better myself.
00:09There's a restaurant by the Jewel Quarter.
00:13The owner's fight name is Clyde.
00:16Well, we have a lot of rice and peas, fish and chips,
00:20stew peas and rice, you know, jerk chicken.
00:25So we have a lot of variety of food
00:27where we can really recommend to people.
00:30And it's a good restaurant.
00:31I've been working there doing jerk chicken for a long, long time.
00:35So I know about the cooking and so on.
00:37But it's a restaurant I could recommend to a lot of people
00:40coming from London, coming into the Birmingham area
00:43that we can stop by Clyde at the Jewel Quarter.
00:46Brilliant. When I go to a chip shop,
00:48I would order a good old-fashioned portion of chips
00:51and a battered sausage.
00:52And on the top of that, I'd love a bit of curry sauce.
00:55And I think that when I have my best experience going to Chippy,
00:58it's the Abbey Fish Bar in Bearwood on Abbey Road.
01:03And it's one of the greatest places I've been to.
01:07So I normally order haddock and chips
01:10when I go to the fish and chip shop.
01:12Normally with the curry sauce as well,
01:14which is always really good.
01:17I don't know, I just enjoy haddock.
01:19It's a nice fish.
01:20We've got a local fish and chip shop
01:22that recently changed names
01:23and I can't remember what it's called.
01:25But yeah, I think it's...
01:27But it's good.
01:28It's just down the road from my house,
01:30so I can walk there.
01:31Always good.
01:34Well, the best Chippy place, I suppose,
01:37I don't really know anymore.
01:38They've all closed down, haven't they?
01:40But they just opened an Asian one just down the road from me.
01:43They say it's called Traditional.
01:45Around the corner where I live,
01:47there's one there that's been there now for years.
01:49There's world competitions more than once.
01:51I can't think of the name of the reserve Chippy now,
01:53but in that long.
01:55But yeah, they know me,
01:56but that's what it's about, see.
01:58You got to pick and choose.
