00:00Thank you, Rafa. It's a pleasure to have you here with People en Español to talk about your documentary, Rafa Márquez, El Capitán, which will be released soon on Netflix.
00:13And the first question is, what made you decide to make this documentary or accept the proposal at this moment in your life? Why did you say yes?
00:27Well, it's a pleasure to greet you and a pleasure to have you here. Well, there are two important points that happened in which they convinced me to make this documentary.
00:40The first was that there were already some production houses in which they wanted to convince me to make a documentary, which I was not very determined to do.
00:50And well, I have a great friendship with one of the owners of this production house that made this documentary, which is Pablo Cruz, and a good friendship.
00:58So I approached him to tell him, hey, this producer is approaching me, she wants to make a documentary.
01:04And it came out of him, hey, why don't we do it? And we help you, we take care of you, and we do it however you want.
01:11And I told him, well, if it's you, I think it will give me much more confidence to be able to open up in front of the cameras.
01:18And it was much easier, the truth is, especially since there is also Leo Krauser, who is a crack at what he does.
01:25And I think the piece has been phenomenal, I am very happy with it.
01:29And the other thing is that I can also give people the opportunity to know me a little more as a human being, as a person, as a father, as a son, as a friend.
01:40And that certain facets or parts of my career that they did not know either, well, let them know.
01:47And thus be able to give, perhaps, an example of motivation to people to try to achieve important things, or their dreams, or their goals.
01:59And in making the documentary, what has been the moment, you have a long, very illustrious career, with many good moments.
02:09But what has been the moment that you liked to remember the most, or that you wanted to remember the least?
02:16Well, I mention it in the documentary, and I think it is the loss of my father.
02:21Because for me, my father was someone too important in my life, who also had a great influence on me being a footballer.
02:32And that he left at a time, well, it is also very important, where he could not see me playing in Barcelona, winning a Champions League.
02:43And well, it is still a memory that hurts me, and every time there is that pain that he is not with us.
02:55And seeing something more positive, what has been the moment that you liked to remember the most?
03:01The moment when you said, I do want to talk about this.
03:06There are many moments that are quite good.
03:10One, for example, in which my mother hangs up the phone, where I want to go back home, and I want to answer my mom.
03:20And I answer my mom, and the moment when she tells me, no, you are not going to go back.
03:25Now be responsible for what you want, this is what you wanted.
03:29Well, now you have to be responsible, and she hangs up the phone.
03:33So it was an important part of my career, because I think that if she had changed her mind, maybe we would not be talking here.
03:43And another one is probably every victory, that behind every victory there was a job, a hard work, there were difficult moments.
03:53But even so, I was able to get up and try again, and work to get it.
04:00As you mentioned, there have been difficult moments, some have been with the Mexican national team.
04:05How do you value now that the documentary has also allowed you to review your career?
04:12Sit down a bit and see what you have done.
04:15That step through the national team, that sometimes you have not achieved goals, that you have received criticism.
04:20There have been excellent games, there have been very sweet moments.
04:24How do you see your career in the national team, and what you got or what you didn't get with the TRI?
04:31Yes, well, it was a very long career, I had the opportunity to play five World Cups, but at the end of those five World Cups I couldn't get anything.
04:41That also in those five World Cups there were happy moments, like being able to score in three different ones.
04:50And there were difficult moments, like the expulsion from the United States, and obviously the World Cup in Brazil, having committed that penalty that leaves us out.
05:01And that also allows me to realize that no one is perfect, that being an international figure and being someone important,
05:11and that there is a lot of responsibility to be a leader, sometimes it also leads you to make certain mistakes,
05:19and that you have to learn from them, and you have to face them and face them as I did at the time.
05:26And remembering all that allows me to know that I am not perfect, that all human beings are imperfect,
05:35but you have to learn from that and that it doesn't make you stay there, but you have to get up to continue.
05:42What is your next chapter, the next chapter in the series? Are you going to continue in Barcelona, are you going to return to Mexico?
05:50What is in Rafa Márquez's plans now?
05:54Well, today we have finished the season, but we are now in the playoff, we are about to start this weekend's playoff,
06:01and I think it is the most important thing, to try to finish the season well. We have a great opportunity to rise.
06:08Last season we were also in the playoff, but we stayed in the first opportunity,
06:15and today I feel or we feel more capable of doing the feat, and that is what I want to focus on.
06:23Then we will see what happens, and it continues in my next chapter.
