00:00It is unlikely that DAP's support will be affected following controversies surrounding
00:08two prominent figures from the party, says a political analyst.
00:12James Chin of University of Tasmania said these controversies were minor cases compared
00:18to corruption allegations and abuse of power by past politicians involving larger contracts.
00:24Chin was commenting on the furore following the award of a state project to a firm linked
00:30to the husband of Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeo by the Selangor government.
00:35The other incident involved the proposed appointment of Penang's second deputy chief minister,
00:39Jagdeep Singh Dio's father-in-law, to head the state's Freedom of Information Appeals
00:43Board.
00:44Meanwhile, Asmil Tayib of University Science Malaysia said the two controversies did not
00:49reflect well on DAP and attracted unnecessary scrutiny on the practice of nepotism.
00:55However, he does not expect these issues to sway voters against PH at the upcoming Sungai
01:01Bakak by-election as he said bread-and-butter issues are still the voters' main concern.
