00:05But prior to his tragic passing, the TV doctor left behind a legacy of health advice,
00:10which changed the lives of many of those he met over his 25 years as Britain's most famous medic.
00:15He touched many thousands more through his infectious enthusiasm for nutrition
00:20and dieting research. Here are some of his best health tips.
00:23Moseley was best known for pioneering the 5-2 diet, renowned by several famous fans
00:28including George Osborne, who lost two stone, and Benedict Cumberbatch, who also took up the 5-2
00:34diet to slim down for his role in the BBC series Sherlock. The diet consists of fasting for two
00:40days a week and eating normally for the other five. Two days a week are devoted to eating around 5-600
00:46calories, about a quarter of the normal intake. In recent years, Moseley championed the fast 800
00:51diet. The diet is stricter than the 5-2 and encourages those following it to eat only 800
00:57calories per day for at least two weeks and a maximum of 12 weeks. This method is said to spark
01:03fast weight loss after carbohydrates are then slowly reintroduced before users embark on a
01:09more permanent, moderately low-carb and Mediterranean-style diet. Emma Warring,
01:14editorial director of Moonflower Books, said on social media after his death that Moseley's 5-800
01:20recipes helped her lose over six and a half stone and taught her how to eat in a way that allowed
01:26her to lose weight while still enjoying satisfying and delicious food. Moseley spoke openly about his
01:31struggles with insomnia. He made a Radio 4 podcast series called Sleep Well to encourage people with
01:37drifting off. He championed a concept known as sleep efficiency and encouraged people to sleep
01:43at least seven hours a night. To help get enough night's rest, Moseley recommended slow breathing,
01:49taking a warm shower and bathing in the morning light when you wake up, which helps to set the
01:54body clock. The presenter also encouraged people to measure their waist because your waist is one
01:59of the best predictors of how healthy you are. Moseley advocated the string test, where a person
02:05takes a piece of string and measures it to their height. If it doesn't fit around their waist when
02:10folded in half, it's an indicator that they need to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Dr Moseley spoke
02:16a lot about the benefits of fermented food. He said they can have a huge impact on inflammation,
02:21reducing pain and aches and improving conditions such as osteoarthritis.
02:26His top recommendations were live yogurt, kimchi, sauerkraut and kefir.
