Man has been shot during Sydney home invasion

A man has been shot during a home invasion in Sydney’s south-west. According to police seven men terrorised a family with guns and machetes after forcing their way inside.

00:00Police say it's too early to say whether the wounded man was known to police, but investigators
00:06have information to suggest that this attack was not random.
00:10Four family members were at home in Carnes Hill when seven men wearing face masks forced
00:16their way inside about a quarter to one this morning.
00:19One of the men was armed with a machete, another with a shotgun and one with a pistol.
00:24They demanded money and a 25-year-old man who lived at the home was shot in the calf.
00:30As the men left, they doused the door with petrol and set it alight.
00:33The entrance briefly caught fire, but the flames went out by themselves.
00:38The shotgun was fired into the side of a car parked in the driveway before the men fled
00:43in two cars.
00:44All seven remain on the run.
00:46It's always worrying when offences like these happen and all I can say is that generally
00:51these matters are targeted, but there's always the exception.
00:56I would just say that to ensure that your own safety, ensure that you don't have your
01:01variables out, that you secure your home and if you see anything suspicious, report it.
01:07The shooting victim was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
01:12Police say his girlfriend and mother and a grandparent who lived at the property have
01:17been left traumatised by the home invasion.
01:21Officers have spent the day combing the street for CCTV and interviewing neighbours as they
01:25try to determine a motive.
