00:00After a first summit finish at the Giro Next Generation Stage 4, an opportunity for the
00:11sprinters.
00:12139 kilometers from Porturzio to Borgo Monero.
00:17Just one categorized climb along the way, nothing that should disrupt the sprinter's
00:21trains and the expectation of a fast and furious finish.
00:26A shaken up general classification, a new best Italian rider in the shape of Florian
00:30Caggiamini, Paul Magnier continuing his lead of the points competition, Tim Thorn-Tutenberg
00:36of Lidl Trek looking for a first win and a first day in pink for Jano Uidar of Lotto
00:41Destiny as they rolled out of Porturzio.
00:45When the flag dropped there were immediate attacks but it took a little while before
00:49the breakaway of the day established itself and when it did there were just two riders
00:53in it, Filippo D'Aiuto and Pietro Da Porto, just 18 years of age.
00:59Those two though were kept on a very tight leash, Lotto Destiny riding with the pink
01:04jersey in their ranks.
01:07One or two crashes along the way, including towards the back end of the bunch, a big pile
01:11up featuring a number of riders from MBH Bank Kolpak including their Czech rider Pavel Novak
01:17getting himself back up and running.
01:19On the only categorised climb of the day then, Da Porto was dropped by Filippo D'Aiuto
01:26who went over the top of the only categorised climb of the day on his own to open his account
01:30in the King of the Mountains competition.
01:34But he was reeled in eventually as they approached the finishing circuit.
01:38It was Team Wonti riding on the front for their rider Hoop Aerts but that was the moment
01:4328km to go that Lidl Trek deployed the German powerhouse of Niklas Behrens who clipped off
01:52the front and held a comfortable lead all the way onto the finishing circuit and out
01:59onto the first of two laps with Soudal Quickstep riding hard to keep a lid on the ambitions
02:06of the German time trialist.
02:09On the only little climb on the circuit then, taking a few seconds back on Behrens but the
02:16rider from Lidl Trek still holding a 12 second advantage over the top of the climb and then
02:21towards the finishing line for the second time where he took the belt and a 7 second
02:27advantage for the solo attacker.
02:30With 11km to go the odds were stacked against him though and Soudal Quickstep duly wound
02:35the rider back in but that only then provoked a series of further attacks including a two
02:39up attack from the Italian national team.
02:42It was short lived though with a number of different sprinters teams shutting down the
02:46moves including Tudor Pro Cycling as well getting involved.
02:50Further counter attacks came and went as we passed through 5km to go but nothing stuck
02:56and the big teams had everything under control lining it up for a bunch sprint.
03:01Into the final kilometre and with 500m to go though it was Lotto Destiny who took things
03:05up.
03:06Soudal Quickstep a little bit disorganised looking round for the red jersey of Paul Manier
03:09the pre-race favourite looking to double up and make it another sprint win.
03:14Matisse Grisel opened up his sprint for Lotto Destiny early but Manier found space down
03:17the middle challenged alongside him by Tim Thorn-Tutenberg but Paul Manier of Soudal
03:23Quickstep in the red jersey made it two wins here in the bunch finishes at the Giro Next
03:28Generation.
03:29A class above the rest and at least one bike length his advantage over the line for the
03:34Frenchman.
03:35A 5 of 2024 for him an outstanding success story for Soudal Quickstep this year their
03:41new signing from Trinity Racing.
03:45Talented rider taking another stage win this time ahead of Tim Thorn-Tutenberg in second
03:49place and Damato in third.
03:51No change in the general classification though, Janne Wider enjoying another day in pink ahead
03:55of Matisse Rondel and Manier extending his lead in the points competition in the red
04:01jersey now.
04:02A handsome lead over Tim Thorn-Tutenberg in second place.
04:04Janne Wider hangs on to his blue jersey as well leading the King of the Mountains competition
04:09by five points and the white jersey for the best young rider at just 18 years of age from
04:15Pablo Torres at 47 seconds.
04:18And no change either Florian Cagimini the best Italian rider an undiminished advantage
04:23in that competition.
