00:00The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is targeting
00:03to increase the number of consumers who can benefit from a cheaper water bill.
00:08Clayzel Pardilla is back.
00:12For every 10 cubic meters of water consumed,
00:16Sinilang Maynilad will receive P222 from their regular customer.
00:22But if it's a low-income lifeline,
00:25there's a 50% discount, so the basic charge is only P112.
00:32But that's not enough for Jonna's family,
00:35a four-piece beneficiary,
00:37and they're saving on water.
00:39But because there's a lot of water at home, the bill is still increasing.
00:43We consume a lot of water,
00:46around P1,000 or P60 cubic meters.
00:49We're not small, but we're a four-piece beneficiary.
00:52It's hard for us.
00:54We're paying more.
00:56That's what the Department of Environment and Natural Resources is trying to change.
01:01The agency's target is to increase the number of people
01:05who can benefit from a cheaper water bill.
01:08DNR is studying to increase the current 10 cubic meters limitation
01:14requirement to receive a discount on water bills.
01:18The consumption of a household is lower
01:23compared to a high-income household.
01:27Because bathing is cheaper,
01:30because they're using a tub and a tub.
01:33Definitely, the consumption of water is lower
01:36if it's a tub and a tub versus a shower.
01:38The lifeline rate is if you're only using up to 10 cubic meters per month.
01:42If there's a lot of us at home,
01:44I went over to 11 or 15 cubic meters.
01:47It's still hard for me.
01:49So I think their rate per cubic meter is still a lifeline rate.
01:54The distribution of water supplies continues.
01:58The agency approved the higher allocation of water
02:03that will be given to consumers in Metro Manila.
02:06From P51, it was done at P52CMS,
02:09from June 16 until the end of the month.
02:12There are 22 dams in Cavite
02:15that were approved by the National Irrigation Administration
02:18to be converted into a multipurpose irrigation system
02:23that will be able to supply water to consumers.
02:27The construction of the facility in Manila
02:30will continue to recycle water and supply it to consumers.
02:35Until 2027, we're expecting to increase
02:38this new water treatment capacity
02:42to about 90 million liters per day.
02:45So that's how serious Manila is
02:48in putting up new water treatment facilities.
02:52At the same time, the old pipes will be put together
02:55to save water and equipment.
