00:22Grace Nomayo's Meralko bill reached Php 6,000, higher than usual.

00:35But this month, the cost of electricity will increase by 64 cents per kilowatt-hour.

00:41That's an additional Php 129 to the electric bill of typical houses

00:45that consume 200 kilowatt-hours per month.

00:48As consumption increases, so does the cost of electricity.

00:52The increase is due to the increasing generation charge or cost of electricity supply,

00:59transmission charge, and feed-in tariff allowance

01:02that goes to the producers of renewable energy.

01:05We saw a tightness of supply coupled with the high demand.

01:12The price of wholesale electricity in the spot market increased.

01:18We also have instances of ice and thread alerts.

01:25In that situation, the generation cost was reduced,

01:28excluding the wholesale.

01:30That part is equivalent to Php 13 per kilowatt-hour,

01:34which will be deducted from the three installments.

01:36It means that there is an additional Php 4 per kilowatt-hour in July, August, and September.

01:43According to Meralko, aside from the price of electricity,

01:46the monthly bill can also increase depending on your consumption.

01:50Now that the rainy season has started,

01:52the weather is getting colder, which can help lower the monthly bill.

01:57Since demand is not as significant compared to the past few months,

02:08maybe the price in the spot market will be softer as well.

02:16The ERC can also reduce the approval of Meralko's supply

02:21from the Ilija Natural Gas Plant of the South Premier Power Corporation.
