00:00After two days in a row for the sprinters, it's back up into the hills and the climbing
00:11starts once again at the Giro Next Gen.
00:15It's a long one today too, 172km in total, and a testing one at that, from Borgo Vigilio
00:21to an uphill finish at Fosset, over four categorised climbs, including the climb to the end.
00:28So clipping in and getting ready, some riders hoping to attack, others just hoping to get
00:33through the day, still in the lead of their classification, like Paul Magnier in the red
00:37jersey, but a peloton still full of ambition and full of fight.
00:41And trying to take that fight to the leader of the Giro Next Gen, the tiny 18-year-old
00:47from Lotto Destiny in the Maglia Rosa, Jarno Widar, looking if the opportunity presents
00:53itself to make further gains in the general classification as he continues his stranglehold
00:59on the opposition in the hillier stages.
01:01The blue jersey being worn by Wouter Toussaint of Wonte and Pablo Torres, wearing the white
01:06jersey on loan from Jarno Widar.
01:10A cagey start then, before the breakaway of the day did get itself established, and it
01:15was a six-rider move, including Andrea Racane Noviero of Sudal Quickstep, but those riders
01:20with 15km to go were on a very tight leash indeed.
01:25Racane Noviero decided to go solo just inside 15km, and Wonte Reus-Teknoord, riding for
01:33Wouter Toussaint in the blue jersey, started to set the pace in the peloton.
01:36At the moment, the race leader at this point was getting an armchair ride in the colours
01:41of Lotto Destiny, wearing the Maglia Rosa.
01:44So approaching the final climb of the day, it eased up a little bit.
01:47Wonte, starting to work through their numbers, Tudor Pro Cycling as well in a diminishing
01:52peloton, still hadn't got to the man from Sudal Quickstep, the Italian, Racane Noviero,
01:58but with 7.4km to go, they were right on the Italian, as the pressure started to exert
02:03itself behind them, one by one, riders in this elite group started to drop.
02:07That was the moment that two Colombians attacked, William Colorado and Maurizio Zapata, working
02:13well together.
02:14Wonte put Toussaint under pressure in the blue jersey and he dropped away and would
02:18lose time by the end of the day.
02:21Still the Colombians, of whom Maurizio Zapata looked the strongest, holding on to a seven
02:25second advantage over the team of Matisse Rondel, Tudor Pro Cycling, setting the pace
02:30on the front.
02:32Then came a counter-attack from the group of favourites, Wismar-Lisa Bike's Darren
02:36van Beekhem, getting across to the front of the race and then going past the two Colombians
02:40and going clear, building up a lead of only 10 seconds though, with 4km to go, as the
02:45pace behind grew ever faster and one by one riders started to drop away.
02:504km to go then, van Beekhem was caught by the group of favourites, as Jano Huida waited
02:57to launch his attack.
02:59The first real attack of the day though didn't come from the man in the pink jersey, instead
03:04other riders just trying to put the pressure on, and it was the man in the white jersey,
03:10Pablo Torres, who decided that enough was enough, and was imminently about to launch
03:15his attack as Cagimini was dropped in the white jersey.
03:19Then there were only 5 riders, or 6 riders at the front of the race.
03:24Still Huida just binding his time on the wheel of Matisse Rondel, waiting patiently, 1.1km
03:30to go.
03:31A group of just 5 riders now, looking to contest the stage victory.
03:37Pablo Torres then, the attack, the expected attack from the man in the white jersey came
03:41from UEE Team Emirates, and that was the trigger then for the pink jersey, with Paul Marti
03:48of the Israel team to go with him, and those 3 riders then, with 500m to go, were off the
03:54front.
03:56Shortly after that then, Jano Huida decided he could take the attack to the line, drifted
04:00over to the left, opened up an advantage around the penultimate bend in the road, and when
04:05it kicked up again, the little Belgian turned the screw and started to ride away from the
04:10two other men.
04:14Another emphatic performance, Jano Huida, and at the finish line would comfortably extend
04:20his advantage in the Giro Next Gen.
04:22A good response though from Torres, taking Paul Marti to the line, but the win at this
04:26point was never in doubt, as Jano Huida stood up and sprinted for the line, 50m to go, and
04:32a win number 2 for the man in the Maglia Rosa.
04:35Not by the same margin, but another emphatic performance, Torres coming over the line with
04:40Paul Marti on his wheel for 3rd place.
04:44So a promising Giro Next Gen is becoming a performance of some dominance, and not much
04:49now separates this man from victory.
04:51One of his big season's targets was to perform well at this race, and he is doing just that.
04:5618 years of age, the second youngest rider, winning stage number 2, this time ahead of
05:01Pablo Torres of UAE Team Emirates and Paul Marti of Israel.
05:05Extending his advantage in the lead in the general classification to 52 seconds over
05:09Pablo Torres, who moves up into 2nd place ahead of Rondel.
05:13No change in the top 2 of the points competition, Maglia still leads Tuttenberg, and in the
05:19blue jersey, well he's piled on more points again, Jano Huida, but Nespoli is just one
05:23point behind him now in 2nd place.
05:26Jano Huida still leading the young riders competition, also by 52 seconds to Torres.
05:32And Florian Caggiamini, despite being dropped, still leads the best Italian rider classification
05:36by 1 minute and 14 seconds.
