Did you know some every day habits can be pretty risky? For starters, putting your feet on the dashboard might seem comfy, but if the airbag deploys, you could get seriously injured. Walking on pool covers looks fun, but it’s a quick way to get trapped and potentially drown. There are also other seemingly harmless things that can be dangerous, like texting while walking or using cheap phone chargers. It's wild how small choices can have big consequences, so it’s worth staying aware and safe! Credit:

00:00Walking on pool covers is just asking for trouble, seriously.
00:05They might look harmless, all shiny and tempting, but some models aren't built to handle our
00:10weight.
00:11Fall through and you're in a whole world of trouble.
00:14First, you'll likely struggle to find the hole again, and once trapped, good luck trying
00:19to escape!
00:21Those covers are designed to float, so they're going to cling to you.
00:25Trashing around only makes things worse, increasing your chances of getting tangled up.
00:31From pools to swamps, now the danger shifts to bubbles seemingly drifting your way.
00:37Watch out, because that's a sign that an alligator might be nearby.
00:41During mating season, male alligators put on quite the show to attract females, even
00:46to the point of roaming neighborhoods.
00:49It usually takes a few weeks for the male to win over the female, and if she thinks
00:52he's a suitable partner, they start swimming around each other.
00:56But the mating act itself is surprisingly private, as it happens underwater.
01:01All that can be seen of the actual mating are the bubbles that rise from the bottom
01:05of the swamp.
01:07The next underwater threat is much smaller, only about 14 inches long.
01:13Bloodworms might seem small, but they're like little dangerous mutants.
01:17During their life, which is normally about 5 years, they feed on the metal they find
01:21in the sediment at the bottom of the ocean.
01:24This metal actually fuses with their jaws, creating metal teeth.
01:29Yep, their super sharp teeth are made of 10% copper, the highest concentration found in
01:36any animal.
01:37When this bright red marine worm is ready to strike, it inverts its digestive system,
01:43including those metal teeth, and shoots its guts like a torpedo right at its target.
01:48Oh, and its venom contains 32 different types of toxins, paralyzing its prey completely.
01:56The next red threat on our list is a flyer, the hooded patoe.
02:01Despite its cute appearance, this bird packs a venomous punch.
02:05Its feathers contain a chemical called batruchotocin, also found in poisonous frogs and certain
02:11beetles.
02:12Basically, when this toxin gets into your system, it messes with the normal functioning
02:17of sodium channels in nerve cells.
02:21This disruption keeps these channels open longer, causing nerves to fire uncontrollably.
02:26That can lead to paralysis, breathing problems, or worse.
02:30So if you ever find yourself in their native land, New Guinea, stick to the chicken dinner
02:36and stay away from this bird.
02:39Another thing you should never eat is the pufferfish, especially a type that is highly
02:43famous in Japan, known as fugu.
02:47If you really want to try it, just know that only skilled and licensed chefs can prepare
02:51it.
02:52Fugu has to be handled very carefully, because certain parts of the fish contain a toxin
02:57called tetrodotoxin.
02:59To understand how dangerous this substance is, consider that around 55 people per year
03:05lose their lives after eating this fish.
03:09Hundreds more experience symptoms like dizziness and vomiting.
03:13If prepared correctly, and I emphasize if, this type of pufferfish can be enjoyed as
03:19sashimi or in hot pot dishes.
03:22But I wouldn't dare to try it.
03:25If you ever stumble upon a foaming watermelon, do yourself a favor, don't eat it.
03:31The foam coming from the cracks in the rind happens because it's grown in super hot weather.
03:37In the US, for example, this fruit comes mostly from Florida, Arizona, California, Delaware,
03:44and Texas.
03:45When watermelons grow in that heat, they start fermenting.
03:49Once this process begins inside a watermelon, it creates the perfect environment for toxic
03:54pathogens to flourish.
03:56Trust me, that's not the flavor you want to explore since it can make you sick.
04:01Plus, if the fermentation process builds up and you decide to cut the watermelon, be prepared
04:06for a fruit explosion.
04:09Get rid of stinky potatoes as soon as possible.
04:13When these spuds turn mushy, they start giving off a nasty gas called solanine.
04:19Inhaling enough of it can knock you out cold and even give you wild hallucinations and
04:25raging fever.
04:26Usually, potatoes in that stage have a green color.
04:30Although the green color that forms on the skin of a potato is actually chlorophyll,
04:34which isn't toxic at all, its presence indicates concentrations of solanine.
04:40This toxin is produced in the green parts of the potato, the leaves, the stem, and any
04:45green spots on the skin.
04:47This strange process occurs because it's the plant's defense mechanism against insects,
04:53diseases, predators, and apparently, humans too.
04:57To prevent any bad consequences, remember to store your potatoes in a cool, dark place
05:02and remove the skin before eating them.
05:05Next on our list is something that we all love, hot dogs.
05:10Besides their zero nutritional value and controversial ingredients, the shape of hot dogs is a perfect
05:16plug for airways.
05:18In fact, this is actually the leading cause of choking for kids under 14.
05:23As a grown-up, you're probably already pretty cautious, but it's still smart to skip those
05:29hot dog eating contests.
05:32Never pick cashews straight from the trees.
05:35In their natural state, those little guys contain an oily resin called urushiol.
05:40If you come into contact with it, you can end up with a rash that itches and looks like
05:45a bad case of poison ivy.
05:47Fortunately, those raw cashews you find in supermarkets aren't really raw, they've been
05:52roasted at high heat once or twice to make them safe to eat.
05:57Once cashews are clear of urushiol, they go through quality checks and then they're good
06:01to hit the shelves.
06:03One thing that is not safe to buy, though, is clothes labeled as stain-resistant.
06:09I know it seems like a great deal, but those words might actually mean the item is packed
06:13with some not-so-cool stuff that can mess with your body, like purr and polyfluoroalkyl
06:20substances.
06:21So, along with all the usual stuff like processing and dyes, these fabrics get an extra dose
06:27of chemicals that stick around even after you wear them.
06:31Yep, stain-resistant clothes might be poisonous and can cause you all sorts of issues, like
06:37rashes, headaches, and brain fog.
06:40And I don't need any more brain fog.
06:44We've all heard it a million times, but it's worth repeating.
06:48Don't stand too close to a moving train.
06:50But why?
06:51Well, when a train speeds by on the tracks, the air rushes past at different speeds on
06:56either side of you.
06:58According to something called Bernoulli's theorem, the air pressure between you and
07:03the train is lower than the pressure on the other side of you.
07:06This creates a kind of suction that can pull you towards the train, putting you at risk
07:11of getting hurt.
07:13So yeah, it's definitely best to stay away from the tracks.
07:18But if your travel plan involves hopping into the passenger seat of a car, don't rest your
07:23feet on the dashboard.
07:24I get it, we've all done it.
07:27But this chill habit is seriously risky.
07:30One of the most crucial reasons to avoid putting your feet on the dashboard is the danger it
07:34poses if the airbag deploys.
07:37You might be wearing your kneecaps as a sleep mask.
07:40Airbags are meant to deploy with some serious force in a crash.
07:44If your feet are up there, you're way more likely to get hurt when that airbag slams
07:48into you, possibly causing some serious injuries, like fractures or dislocations.
07:54Plus, this bad habit compromises the effectiveness of the seatbelt.
07:58With your feet in an elevated position, the seatbelt might not keep you securely in place.
08:05So you're on a road trip headed for a camping adventure.
08:08You're wandering through the forest looking for the perfect spot to pitch your tent.
08:12But hold up, is that an orange X painted on a tree?
08:16You might think that this is just a sign that the tree is getting axed, but it's actually
08:20something else entirely.
08:22The U.S. Forest Service uses that symbol to mark boundaries, usually indicating the edge
08:28of the government-owned land.
08:30So if you spot an orange X on a tree, your best move is to turn around and head back
08:35the way you came.
08:37That's it for today!
