00:00Tiger Woods now in the PGA Tour, as old as he is right now and non-competing, he is still
00:08a draw.
00:09So if you're looking for the PGA Tour to say, how can we keep ratings good and moving in
00:14the right direction when more and more people are deflecting and going to live golf, let's
00:18get Tiger Woods in more of these events that he wouldn't qualify for.
00:22So a lifetime exemption is on the table for exceptional lifetime achievement, which means
00:28in those elevated tournaments with the $20 million purse, if Tiger says he would like
00:32to play in any one of those tournaments, he's automatically accepted.
00:36The thing I do like here from the PGA Tour is it's not taking the place of maybe a regular
00:41qualifier who could have used that spot and thought he could compete in that tournament.
00:45So let's start here.
00:46The PGA Tour says, hey, Tiger, you want to show up and play?
00:49Do it.
00:50We would love to have you because the ratings will show higher for that weekend's tournament.
00:54I guess it's just unbelievable.
00:58You mean like they made the exemption, the USGA, for him to play in this year's US Open
01:03and he didn't make the cut because it was actually painful watching him swing the club
01:08and walk around.
01:09Like, what are we doing here?
01:11Let me ask you this here, though, Donny.
01:12Let me ask you this.
01:14If there was no live golf, would we be talking about this right now if the ROMs and the DeChambeauxs
01:23and the Kupkas were actually still on the PGA Tour?
01:27Would they be offering a lifetime exemption that they didn't do to Jack Nicklaus, they
01:32didn't do it to Gary Player, they didn't do it to Arnie, they didn't do it to guys that,
01:35you know, built the sport here?
01:38Would they be doing it or is this strictly not so much nostalgia as it is nobody's watching
01:44because half of our best players are on another tour we can't talk about?
01:49It's such a good question because we don't technically know the answer.
01:53Even if we really do, like the PGA Tour, as much as they say, what are they, non-profit
01:57as an organization, but somehow finding more profit to give these players with these eight
02:01elevated tournaments now, which I like because it brings more good golfers before and after
02:05some of these majors, but they're not doing it to be nice guys saying, hey, Tiger, man,
02:10thank you for all you've done.
02:11Because if, let's just say, Tiger Woods didn't draw anything and could barely swing a golf
02:15club, they'd say, hey, Tiger, if you want to start the tournament off with a tee shot
02:18with like Jack Nicklaus does at the Masters, you can do that every weekend if you want.
02:22But they want him to play, not because it's like, hey, man, it's good to have Tiger out
02:26there.
02:27Hey, man, it's good for a business here and puts more money in our pocket on the next
02:30season.
02:31So I do understand completely what you're saying.
02:33It doesn't really move the needle for me, but it's just interesting that out of nowhere,
02:36it's like, hey, look, we've never done this before.
02:38You're such a great golfer.
02:40You can play in these high price tournaments.
02:42And I guess knowing that the other players like, yeah, good.
02:44That means, you know, ratings will go up, maybe more versus.
02:49It's like, oh, man, you got a tiger in this.
02:51He's going to win this tournament again.
02:52I can't get first place like, no, not anymore.
02:55Yeah, it just feels like it's a they're milking every last ounce of Tiger Woods popularity
03:02until they can't get it anymore.
03:05And it's not because he's competitive.
03:06It's not because he still can win a tournament here or there.
03:10They're doing it for their own benefit.
03:12And listen, if I'm Tiger Woods, man, like you got other like Tiger, like move on, man.
03:18You want to show up to Augusta once a year, great.
03:22But I mean, having this guy show up, not because you think he can actually be competitive,
03:26that just you hope somebody buys a ticket or watches the event.
03:30You're using Tiger Woods for every last ounce of credibility that you have left, PGA.
03:37And that to me is just wrong.
