Langkawi is being positioned as a preferred Muslim destination with an emphasis on family-friendly and spiritual tourism, says the Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister.

Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan told the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (June 24) that this would help enhance Langkawi's competitiveness among regional islands in preparation for the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

In response to concerns raised by Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (PN-Langkawi) about the cleanliness of Langkawi's waters, particularly around Bukit Malut, Khairul Firdaus assured that the ministry is committed to elevating Langkawi as one of the top islands in the country, and suggested that a volunteer program could be initiated by the ministry to help clean up the beaches.

00:00So, my question is, what is the campaign for Malaysia's New Year's Eve this year
00:04different from the campaign for the previous year?
00:08So, what is the KPI for Malaysia's New Year's Eve?
00:12And what is the ROI?
00:14I would also like to ask, since Malaysia is facing fierce competition with neighboring countries
00:21to attract foreign tourists,
00:23I would like to ask, is there a half of the country that implements the basics that are not compatible with foreign tourists
00:31such as not being able to drink, not being able to wear shorts, wearing tight clothes?
00:37Is this hindering the efforts of the government?
00:40And how does the government attract more foreign tourists to visit countries that implement these basics?
00:48Go ahead, Minister.
00:54Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
00:57There are a few things that have been raised by Mr. Speaker.
01:01The first is related to the strategy compared to the visit to Malaysia in 2026
01:07compared to the last one in 2014.
01:10We know that in 2014, the digital impact was not as great as it is now.
01:15And now we see how we can adapt and maximize this digital impact
01:21so that the number of tourists can be increased.
01:25Secondly, if we look at the data that we have received and obtained at present,
01:31there are many improvements that have been achieved by the ministry itself.
01:36For example, the easiest thing I can give is the arrival of tourists.
01:41In 2023, until April, we received 5,930,000 tourists in 2023.
01:50This year, until April, we have received 7.56 tourists who have visited our country.
01:59This clearly shows that the strategy that we have presented has a good effect.
02:09There are a few things that have been raised by Mr. Speaker.
02:13I would like to clarify in this noble council,
02:19so far, when we go to countries, we have made a show and we have interacted
02:25and made a session related to state governments.
02:28What has been raised by Mr. Speaker is actually in a fairly controlled state.
02:33Fairly controlled and fairly good.
02:35And I ask that we do not need to show things that are actually not a serious matter in our country.
02:48Secondly, I agree with Mr. Speaker's view
02:52on how we can make a competition between other countries.
02:59That's why we focus on several niche sectors.
03:04And when we go to Langkawi, we know that it is very difficult for Langkawi to compete with other islands in our country.
03:13That's why we will position Langkawi as a preferred Muslim destination.
03:20So that it is more towards family, more towards charity or spirituality.
03:29That's why we need to see that each country plays its own role.
03:37No need for each country to do the same thing
03:40because it will affect from the competitive point of view itself.
03:44Thank you.
03:45Okay, Langkawi.
03:46Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
03:49I was called when I said this short speech.
03:54It's not over, it's over.
03:57And Alhamdulillah, the Ministerial Team has responded very well.
04:05And I also want to congratulate the Ministerial Team that has been in Langkawi for a month.
04:15Questions, questions, Mr. Speaker.
04:16And they are very focused.
04:19And we have discussed various issues in Langkawi.
04:27Mr. Speaker, perhaps this is the latest news that you have received.
04:33We have just announced that Langkawi will be one of the cleanest islands in the world.
04:41Where is the question?
04:42The question?
04:43Be patient.
04:45Be patient.
04:48Mr. Speaker, the problem in Langkawi is that the sea is too dirty.
04:58Very dirty.
05:00If you go to Langkawi, I ask you to go to the sea.
05:04Especially in Bukit Malut area.
05:07The sea is very dirty.
05:09So I ask those who always go to the sea to see the sunset.
05:16They will notice that the dirtiness in Langkawi is out of control.
05:21I ask the Minister to focus on the cleanliness of the sea.
05:26And I don't know which ministry is cleaning the sea.
05:31And my question is, how much budget has been given to Langkawi for this year's visit to Malaysia?
05:40Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
05:43Honourable Minister, please.
05:44Honourable Minister, under the Madani government, we have never neglected any country.
05:56That is why, specifically, my own Honourable Minister has instructed that we must see and
06:02raise Langkawi as one of the best islands in our country.
06:09Both are related to the cleanliness of the sea.
06:11The cleanliness of the sea is actually under the government.
06:17But, but, but, but, under our ministry, we have a volunteer programme.
06:27And we will activate this programme in Langkawi so that the island is always in a calm and clean state.
06:36I cannot come back to Langkawi.
06:39It will be a big issue.
06:40Again, terima kasih.
