00:00This is the voice of Bacaprat, or VOB, a rising star in Indonesia's metal music scene.
00:11But beyond this set in Jakarta, the all-female trio is now getting ready to perform on one
00:17of the biggest stages in the world, Glastonbury Music Festival in England.
00:23The burden is so big, because it's no longer the name VOB that is raised, but the name of the country, Indonesia.
00:35That's the biggest burden.
00:39Widi, Firda, and Ace formed VOB nearly 10 years ago, as teenagers attending Islamic school.
00:46They were inspired by the popular American heavy metal band, System of a Down.
00:51Since then, they have set out to challenge the stereotypes of Muslim women, focusing
00:56on empowerment and community, and gathering heavy metal fans along the way.
01:01But the group has seen their fair share of challenges, with some family members even
01:06suggesting they seek Islamic healing rituals to expel their love for metal.
01:21But for their fans, wearing the hijab is an added bonus, and has just become another aspect to love.
01:51In just a few days, the women of VOB will be taking the stage at Glastonbury, the first Indonesian band to do so.
02:15But it will also be much more than that.
02:18A source, their fans say, of much-needed representation for Muslim women and metalheads around the world.
02:26Alex Chen and Harrell Hughes for Taiwan Plus.
