Plans to open up Bolehills Park Pavilion, Crookes, Sheffield, outlined at Friends of Bolehills Park event
Transcript
00:00Hidden away in Bullhills Park Sheffield is a pavilion and park users have a plan
00:05to open it up for the public to use it more often than it's currently used.
00:13So as part of getting the group restarted we thought we'd do what we call a work
00:17day but we've also called it a community day because the idea is that people come
00:21along and give a hand physically clearing stuff and kind of you know
00:26making paths more accessible but also we've got refreshments on sorry available
00:32so that people can just come along and have a chat. Would you like to see the
00:36pavilion used more and what can be done for that to happen? Yes it'd be amazing I
00:40mean the council you know although it's difficult to replace what was the old
00:44pavilion but we've done an amazing job in the facilities that we've now got so
00:48what we're trying to do is open up more regularly try to get people to see that
00:53we can hire it for all sorts of events there are more and more community groups
00:57using it already but Friends of the Bullhills ideally we'd like to have it
01:01open more regularly maybe you know weekend mornings to offer coffees, teas,
01:07biscuits, cakes that kind of thing but we can only do it if there are enough
01:11members of the group so we'd love to have more people getting involved.
01:19The new pavilion came after Sheffield Council and Bullhills Bowling Club obtained funding for it
01:25from Sports UK. The Bowling Club's been here for since I think 90 years probably the
01:36history of the club and during Covid just before Covid the pavilion got
01:41burnt down it was originally a wooden pavilion which then caused big problems
01:47as we couldn't play matches here. We then put in for a grant with Sports UK
01:55who funded the money together with the council and we were able to build the
02:00pavilion you can see over my shoulder. Volunteers from Friends of Bullhills are
02:06also getting involved in maintenance of the park as you can see here. Okay so we're
02:13trying to get the Friends of the Bullhills group up and running again
02:16partly to help with the environment of the park so for example behind me we're
02:21clearing a staircase that you can probably see which is a very historic
02:26staircase we aren't sure of the origin but it's a real thoroughfare from
02:30Bullhill Road up to the Bullhills and it gets very overgrown so we just want to
02:37make it more open so more people can access the park.
