00:00Are you sure you feel safe when you leave your car out overnight, in a parking lot or
00:05at the office?
00:07Every year, shifty lawbreakers steal millions of cars all over the world.
00:11That's about 800,000 a year just in the US.
00:16And believe me, thieves are getting more inventive every year.
00:19They've learned how to turn off car alarms, outsmart smart keys, and, on average, drive
00:25away in your car in just 20 seconds.
00:29So what are you gonna do?
00:30Well, let's start with the basics, like when your car alarm starts talking to you.
00:34You're sitting at home when suddenly, beep beep beep, get out here and help me!
00:39Your car's screaming at you.
00:41You grab your keys and rush to the window.
00:43Hmm, I don't see anyone.
00:45Maybe a neighbor passed by a little too close, or a bird sat on my antenna.
00:50What if everything isn't so harmless, and someone was trying to get into your car?
00:55Good ol' car alarm frightened him off.
00:57Congratulations!
00:58Eh, the whole neighborhood's awake, but you kept your car.
01:01Well, step up your game with a mute immobilizer.
01:05It works like this.
01:07Someone somehow gets into your car.
01:09Heh heh heh, perfect, totally got away with it.
01:12Key in, car on, punch it into drive, time for a quick getaway.
01:16Your car speeds off.
01:18For about 3 seconds, then chit-chit-chit, your car stalls and refuses to move.
01:24Looks like someone picked the wrong car, thinks the thief, and he's off into the
01:27night.
01:28You actually need two keys to start your car, your regular key and a kind of electronic
01:33reader that double-confirms it's really you.
01:36It's kind of like when they send you a code by text when you want to open some secure
01:41app on your phone.
01:42When you have one of these systems and someone tries to steal your car, it shuts down automatically.
01:48Just remember, keep your two key thingies separate from each other.
01:52If they're on the same keychain, then the whole thing was pointless.
01:55Experts recommend telling everyone your car is protected.
01:59Slap a sticker on there, this car is protected by super-secret safe security.
02:03Yeah, it's not a done deal, but why bother trying to steal a car if it might be protected?
02:09Don't have the cash for a car alarm with built-in immobilizer yet?
02:13Well, at least buy a sticker.
02:15So anti-theft systems work pretty well, but you still gotta be careful.
02:20Let's say you're in a hurry, late for an important meeting.
02:22Rush hour, traffic, I can't be late again!
02:26Finally, you drive up to the building, pull into the parking lot, jump out of your car,
02:30and sprint to the entrance.
02:32So did you check all your windows?
02:34You sure they're closed?
02:36What about the doors?
02:37If you stop and look around, you might just see a casual observer in the parking lot,
02:42sitting in a car or wandering around pretending to look for something.
02:47Say goodbye to your unlocked car.
02:49You may as well put a welcome sign on it.
02:52And even if they don't steal your car, don't hold your breath for all your personal stuff
02:56inside.
02:57So, remember, when you get out of your car, take a peek.
03:01Did you leave anything behind?
03:03Documents, wallet, phone?
03:05Don't be too shocked if they're gone when you get back.
03:08Just shove them into the glove compartment.
03:11Take extra care if you're usually parking your driveway.
03:14Imagine you come home for dinner, leave the car, and rush into the house.
03:19Dinner smells so good!
03:20Well, some guy out on the street's thinking the same thing about your unlocked car.
03:25Delicious!
03:26And it's not just at night.
03:27Make sure you lock your car when you get home, even if it's in the middle of the day.
03:32I'm so guilty on this next one.
03:34Don't leave your car keys near the front door.
03:36I've been doing it wrong for years.
03:39You lock your car, go inside, throw the keys on that table next to the front door, and
03:43run to the kitchen.
03:45Oops.
03:46How often do you check if there are any weird people around when you drive up to your house?
03:50Me?
03:51Nah, never.
03:52It'd be pretty easy to miss someone hiding behind a tree or pretending to tie his shoelaces
03:57or something.
03:59He waits for a little while, sneaks up to the front door, and pulls the handle.
04:03You were so hungry, you forgot to lock it.
04:06The guy looks around for your keys, and there they are!
04:09Why does everyone leave them right there for me?
04:12He grabs them and he's out the door.
04:14You never heard a thing.
04:16What if you left your new watch on that little table?
04:18Yeah, it's gone too.
04:20Bottom line, don't leave anything valuable right by the front door, and always lock it
04:25behind you.
04:26Burglaries are on the rise in your neighborhood, and you have concerns about whether your house
04:31might be vulnerable.
04:34You have no surveillance system, so tonight, you're placing some foil over the front door
04:39handle before you go to bed.
04:43This will help identify if someone sneakily tries to enter while you sleep.
04:49You wake up the next morning, and it appears the foil is slightly ripped.
04:54Someone has been here, and they're sure to return.
04:58Another option is to put a mug on the doorknob.
05:00When the knob turns, the mug will fall, causing a noise to wake you up and hopefully deter
05:07the intruder.
05:10Your main concern is that a tradesman stopped by recently.
05:13He said that he was working next door and asked to use your toilet.
05:19You refused and felt bad at the time for being rude, but it was a very smart move.
05:25About 60% of burglaries in the USA are made by someone you know or have met before.
05:33That tradesman, while going to the bathroom, could have adjusted something in your house
05:37to make their return entry a little easier.
05:40They may have wanted to take a closer look at what security system is installed, check
05:44the structural integrity of your home, and found out what valuable loot you might have.
05:50Finally, today you're going on vacation.
05:54You need to prepare your house and make it as safe as possible.
05:59A full postbox is the first thing a robber will look for in a target.
06:03Your neighbor will need to take your mail while you're away.
06:07A well-manicured property is a clear sign that you are always there.
06:12You've always kept your lawn mown and hedges trimmed, so you will need to arrange for someone
06:17to do this while you're away.
06:18If it was winter, any untouched snow around your house would also make it a target.
06:26Having a neighbor make pretend footprints that show recent activity will also provide
06:30a deterrent.
06:33There are many types of hedges that act as a great first defense.
06:37Luckily, you have sharp-leaved shrubs along your fences.
06:42If someone jumps into your property and lands on a sharp or spiky bush, they will immediately
06:47cry out in discomfort.
06:49This will alert your neighbors of an intruder.
06:53And the foliage will also catch fragments of clothing that could be used as evidence
06:58later.
07:00In preparation for your trip the week before, you opened and closed your curtains at random
07:05times throughout the day.
07:08You made sure there were no clear patterns, so it won't matter if they're left open while
07:13you're away, just in case someone was scouting your property.
07:18Burglars spend several days walking or driving through neighborhoods, identifying the behaviors
07:23of each house.
07:26One thing they don't really like is a neighborhood watch.
07:30Burglars do their research before they start scouting and will avoid these areas, something
07:35for you to organize when you get back.
07:38Now, move all your expensive electronics away from the windows so there's nothing of value
07:44in clear view.
07:46Put them inside a cupboard or a concealed room.
07:50Don't worry about TVs.
07:52They're too large and take effort to move.
07:55The criminals are more interested in the smaller devices, like an iPad and gaming devices.
08:02Put your small expensive items, like jewelry, in boxes and hide them away in a secret location.
08:08Surprisingly, a kid's room is a good spot.
08:11Burglars have admitted to never going into them, as there's nothing of value in toys.
08:18Take photos of all the serial numbers on your electronic devices and create an inventory
08:23for insurance purposes.
08:25Wow, if you're a lucky owner of a brand new iPhone 12, or you've just updated your operating
08:31system to iOS 14, don't be afraid of that creepy green or orange dot that pops up in
08:38the upper right corner.
08:40Green dot shows you're using your camera, and orange indicates you're using the microphone.
08:46Let's say you have TikTok in the background that might passively use both camera and mic.
08:51These dots will show it.
08:53It can help control the battery life.
08:55To make your iPhone louder, go to Settings, Music, and find the equalizer.
09:01It's called EQ in the menu.
09:04Late night option will make your phone about 20% louder than it used to be.
09:09You can also create a unique vibration for any of your contacts.
09:13Go to Settings, Sounds, and open the ringtone settings.
09:18You usually have the default vibration, but if you scroll down a bit, you're gonna see
09:22the Custom section.
09:24Tap any rhythm you like and save it.
09:27You can set it for any of your contacts.
09:30If customized vibration isn't enough, and you still miss your granny's calls, try to
09:35customize the flash.
09:37Turn it on as an extra notification for incoming calls.
09:41Go to General settings, choose the Accessibility section, and head to Hearing.
09:46Turn on the LED flash for alerts.
09:49You're never gonna miss that call again.
09:53If you press the space button and start sliding, you'll have a cursor.
09:57It can be handy if you want to find a typo or correct some word in the notes or whatever
10:02text you're dealing with.
10:04If you typed a very long message, but it turns out you need to get rid of it, you can literally
10:10shake it off.
10:12Just shake the phone to undo the typing.
10:15Whenever you need to choose more than one icon, tap and hold only one and, with the
10:20second finger, add all the other icons you need.
10:24This one's not gonna work if you have an iPhone 6 or older.
10:27The newest iPhones have a super convenient feature that is helpful when you need to go
10:32from one application to another.
10:34Look at that line at the bottom of the screen.
10:37Slide left or right and find the app you need.
10:40No more double-tapping and notification center.
10:44If you like falling asleep to your favorite music or to another YouTube video, just like
10:49I do, go to Clock, tap the timer, and select the When the Time Ends section.
10:55Scroll down until you see the Stop Playing button.
10:59This feature shuts down all the media apps, such as music, any windows that play sounds
11:04or video, and even the YouTube app.
11:07Pretty handy if you ever woke up at 3am in the middle of some random video that was auto-played.
11:12Yeah.
11:13We're all used to messengers, but iMessages are fun!
11:18Press the Send button to add different wow effects to your message.
11:22The Bubble section has four features.
11:25Invisible ink makes it impossible to read the message unless you wipe it with a finger.
11:30Slide the finger from right to left and back to kinda clear it.
11:34With the General effect, the letters seem really tiny at the start, but then they grow
11:39larger.
11:40The Loud effect, vice versa, makes them pop at the start so they appear way larger, but
11:45the size goes back to normal in a few seconds.
11:49The Slam effect speaks for itself.
11:51The message literally slams the screen.
11:54Tap the right button called the Screen effects.
11:57It's fun too!
11:58For example, it has echo effects, so your friend's screen's gonna be overwhelmed
12:03with echoing texts.
12:05Slide right for a lot more different effects.
12:08There's definitely one for touching text you're about to send.
12:11The iPhone font has different sizes as well.
12:14To make it bigger or smaller, go to the Display and Brightness section in the Settings.
12:19Tap the text size and adjust it the way you like.
12:23You can take a selfie not only with the volume button on your phone, but simply by hitting
12:28that button on your headphones.
12:31This hack is for iPhone users, but many Androids can use it too.
12:35And that it usually works with original headphones.
12:39iPhones may not have the most durable batteries, but they beat everyone when it comes to photo
12:44quality.
12:45Turn on the grid in the Camera settings.
12:48Go to General, choose Camera to enable the grid.
12:53It can help you make better compositions in the photo.
12:56If you like typing with one hand, it's probably high time you set the right keyboard.
13:02While typing, hold the globe button.
13:04Three keyboards will appear.
13:06The one on the left is used whenever you type holding your phone in the left hand.
13:10The one in the middle is for both hands, and the one on the right is for typing with the
13:15right hand only.
13:17If you like writing long, romantic letters in your notes, but don't want anyone to
13:21read them, set a pass to any of your notes.
13:25There are two ways to do that, depending on your iPhone model.
13:28For iPhone 6, you gotta slide from right to left and see three icons – Lock, Folder,
13:34and Bin.
13:36Use the Bin if the romantic letter is bad, and the Lock to protect it from peaky eyes.
13:42Set the Pass, but make sure you actually remember it – you can't delete it.
13:47If this didn't work, just tap and hold the note itself, and you'll see the password
13:51bar in the drop-down menu.
13:53Set the Pass, and nobody's gonna know about the romantic letters to Jane you're writing
13:58at night.
14:00Newest models of iPhones support the coolest feature ever.
14:03Now you can make a screenshot of the whole browser page in one file.
14:07To do this, press the Volume Up button plus the Power button.
14:17If you need to find some special word combination while you're reading an online article,
14:22go to the search bar and type the word you're interested in.
14:26You're gonna see three sections – Google Search, Bookmarks & History, and On This Page.
14:32Tap the last one.
14:33The word you need's gonna be highlighted in yellow.
14:36Plus, there'll be a special navigation bar on the bottom with the arrows up and down
14:41to look for the keyword easily.
14:43Don't forget to refresh your iPhone's RAM every now and again.
14:47It can help your device work better and faster.
14:50To do that, you gotta drill down deep.
14:52Go to Setting, General, Accessibility, Assistive Touch, and turn it on.
14:59Press Plus, then Minus, and then the Power button.
15:02You'll see the Power Off bar.
15:05Press the Assistive Touch and hold the Home button.
15:08The RAM's refreshed now.
15:10If you see the Enter Pass notification after you did it, it means you did it all right.
15:17Assistive Touch can also help you set new functions to simple tabs.
15:21Go to Settings, General, Accessibility, and in the Assistive Touch section, you can change
15:27any commands in the Custom Actions menu.
15:30For a double-tap, I chose the Screenshot since a combination of Home plus Power button seems
15:36a bit inconvenient.
15:38To make a screenshot, tap the Accessibility menu circle twice.
15:43People with iPhones don't need a separate app for QR readers since all the iPhones have
15:48them built-in.
15:49Turn on the camera and point it to the code.
15:52You'll see the pop-up window on the top of the screen.
15:55Tap the window, and you'll go straight to whatever link the QR code had.
15:59If it doesn't work, enable the Scan QR Codes function in the camera settings.
16:07You can actually set any song you like for the alarm clock.
16:10Go to the alarm and press Edit in the right upper corner.
16:14Tap the time you want to change the melody for.
16:17In the Sound section, choose Pick a song and go for any song added to your library.
16:23Disclaimer, your best-loved song will probably turn into your worst enemy after a couple
16:28of mornings you use it as an alarm.
16:31One of the most hated problems of all iPhone users is when you run out of memory.
16:36Even if you delete the photos, there's still not enough space.
16:40Go to Settings, iPhone Storage, and make sure that recently deleted photos are actually
16:46deleted.
16:47If not, delete them in the Storage sections.
16:50Note that your messages can contain heavy files, so you can restrict how long the message
16:55can be stored.
16:57In the Message History, tap the Keep Messages button.
17:00It's forever by default, but you can keep them for 1 year or even only 30 days.
17:07If you deal with many documents to be signed, this hack can help you sign them without even
17:12printing and scanning.
17:13Take a screenshot of the document you want to sign, then tap the screenshot to make changes.
17:19Tap the plus button in the right lower corner.
17:22Choose the Signature button in the toolbar, and here we go!
17:26Sign the document with your finger, and save the changes by pressing the button marked
17:30Done.
17:32And so are we!
17:35You check into your hotel room, connect to Wi-Fi, jump on the bed, and post 15 photos
17:40of your new window view.
17:43When the initial surge of excitement is gone, you notice a suspicious blinking light on
17:47your big TV.
17:49Could it be that someone is watching you?
17:51Or have you just seen too many spy movies?
17:54Well, hidden cameras come in all shapes and sizes.
17:58Large ones are easy to spot, but the small ones can be really sneaky and inconspicuous.
18:04They can be hiding behind furniture, in decorations, or vents, and anywhere else you'll have
18:09trouble noticing.
18:11There are even special cameras that can be hidden in everyday movable objects, like alarm
18:16clocks, picture frames, vases, and lamps.
18:20Check to see if these objects are facing at a strange angle, or if they're positioned
18:25to get the best view of your room or bathroom.
18:29The easiest way to spot a hidden cam is to look for the lens reflection, because all
18:34cameras come with lenses.
18:36Turn off the lights and slowly scan the room with a flashlight, laser pointer, or a special
18:42wireless spy cam detector.
18:44It comes with infrared scanning lights and one illuminating light.
18:48When you find a reflective red spot, you gotta turn on the flashlight to help check if there
18:53is a hidden camera.
18:55Definitely check the vents along with any other holes and gaps in the walls or ceiling.
19:00Some advanced detectors even show you what the camera is seeing, making it way easier
19:05to spot and disable.
19:07The detectors only work on cameras that are turned on and working normally though.
19:15Your mobile phone can also help you find some hidden threats.
19:19Turn on Bluetooth and walk around, see if any unknown devices pop up on the screen.
19:25Another idea is to install a network scanner app that shows all devices that are connected
19:30to the Wi-Fi network you're using at the hotel.
19:33When it's done scanning, study the list for devices called something like IP camera or cam.
19:41Plus you can put your phone on selfie mode, turn off the light and close the curtains
19:46and look around the room slowly while focusing on the screen.
19:50Keep an eye out for purple or white lights on the screen.
19:55You can play detective some more and call your friend or family member and start walking
20:00around your room.
20:02Some cameras should emit a sort of radio frequency.
20:06It will most likely interfere with your phone call signal.
20:10If you start hearing any weird noises while you're on the phone in a certain area of
20:14your room, make sure to inspect it carefully.
20:17That's it for today!
20:18So hey, if you pacified your curiosity, then give the video a like and share it with your
