00:00Hey there, and welcome to Robot Feud!
00:13Our contestants today are Moby and Friends, and the Cycloid family.
00:21So without further ado, let's play the Feud!
00:29We've asked 100 English teachers an important question and put their top six answers on
00:33the board.
00:35According to the rules of grammar, when should you use capitalization?
00:43Can I see at the beginning of a sentence?
00:50That's right, CycloidX23!
00:52You should capitalize the first letter of every sentence you write.
00:56But the number one answer is still up there, Moby!
01:01Do we have proper nouns?
01:07Nailed it!
01:08For those of you at home who don't know, a proper noun is a name for a particular person,
01:13place, or thing.
01:16Rita, San Francisco, and Chevrolet are all proper nouns and should always be capitalized.
01:22On the other hand, words like girl, city, and car are common nouns.
01:27They're generic names for people, places, and things, and aren't capitalized.
01:31Now, Moby, do you want to play, or do you want to pass?
01:38They're gonna play, ladies and gentlemen!
01:41Four answers left, Moby's team!
01:43Crusher, it's your turn.
01:46According to 100 English teachers, when should you use capital letters?
01:52Do I see pronouns?
01:54Oh, Crusher, I'm sorry.
01:59Pronouns take the place of nouns.
02:01They're words like he, she, they, you, him, me, her, and them.
02:10The only pronoun that gets capitalized is the word I.
02:13The rest of them all use lowercase letters.
02:16Bruiser, it's up to you.
02:18When should you use capital letters?
02:21Okay, do we have book titles?
02:25You got it, Bruiser!
02:28You should always capitalize the key words in the titles of works like books, movies,
02:33TV shows, plays, and songs.
02:36You'll notice that articles, like the words the and a, and prepositions, like on or of,
02:43aren't usually capitalized in titles.
02:46Unless they come at the start of the title.
02:50Three answers are still up on the board, Little Jimmy.
02:51It's your turn.
02:55Do we have days, months, and holidays?
02:58Good one, Little Jimmy!
03:02Days of the week and months of the year should always be capitalized.
03:06The names of holidays should always be capitalized, too.
03:09Clangbot, two answers left.
03:14Oh, do we have people's titles?
03:18You got it, Clangbot!
03:21A person's title is capitalized when it comes immediately before their name, or when it's
03:27used in a direct address, whereas you don't capitalize titles that follow or replace a
03:32person's name, because in those cases the titles are just common nouns.
03:37Moby, it all comes down to you.
03:41Your team can win 10,000 Energon Cubes, a lifetime supply of Rice-A-Robot, and the sort
03:46of exciting home version of Robot Feud, if you only give the right answer.
03:51If not, the Cycloids have a chance to steal the game.
03:55All right, capital letters.
03:57We're looking for reasons you would use capital letters.
04:03Do we have nationalities, languages, and religions?
04:07Yes, we do!
04:10Languages, like Japanese, nationalities, like Australian, and religions, like Islam, all
04:16get capitalized.
04:18Congratulations, Moby and friends!
04:21If you were playing along at home, don't forget that these were only our top six answers.
04:26There are a bunch of other capitalization rules, which you can find in any grammar book.
04:32Thanks for tuning in, and see you next week on another exciting edition of Robot Feud!
04:38This is Tim, reminding you to get your pets spayed and or neutered.
04:41Bye-bye!
